Re: Updates to faculty layoff plan and other stuff

Ok, folks. So, this thread has been going for about 3 1/2 years now, and gone through a few different rounds of cuts and layoffs. We now have a new governor, new budget, new board of trustees, and will have a new university president. I'm going to go ahead and lock it down now. Feel free to continue...

Re: Forgottonia Brewing - New Craft Brewery coming to Macomb

In case you hadn't been following things closely, Forgottonia Brewing opened Wednesday evening. https://twitter.com/WesternILUniv/status/1139620895671148544 They've got locally brewed beers, a few "guest" beers from other area craft breweries, root beer, and a couple of house-made flavored sodas. Ne...

Re: New football building

Let’s see how fast things move now. I think a lot depends on whether the interim/incoming is a "sports-minded" guy or gal. Agreed. Also, forward thinking vs Conservative (in vision not politics). I think having Bainter reinstated is likely more beneficial for this. I heard a lot of the BIG donors f...

Re: Updates to faculty layoff plan and other stuff

No bring in a fresh face don’t hire someone with current ties to the university. I agree. A whole new, fresh, perspective is needed. I also agree, but just for reference, the new provost would also be that. He has no connection to Western and won't even be starting here until July 1: http://www.wiu...

Re: Updates to faculty layoff plan and other stuff

OK, I get the whole tenured thing; but he was on a year to year contract. So, if they'd just not renewed his contract, would they have beat the 2 year payout? Or am I misinformed on the year to year thing? I think we decided that the year-to-year thing was incorrect. I don't know how the contract w...

Re: Updates to faculty layoff plan and other stuff

Guesses on Interim Pres? Idk, but one of my coworkers mentioned that the new incoming provost seemed like he wanted to use the position as a stepping stone to become a university president. Could be a very short step, depending on how things go. So his tenure was earned via his position as presiden...

Re: Art is a Start

Some good things happening thanks to the artistically-inclined folks in Macomb. http://www.wiu.edu/news/newsrelease.php?release_id=16506 While on that subject, I have always felt that big windowless structure south of Hanson off Murray St screams "Picture Your Mural Here". Something with an athleti...

Wow, he knew how to negotiate a deal, give him credit for that.
It's just how his contract is set up. He has tenure and we have to honor that.

Admin doesn’t want this potential cluster* anywhere near SOAR in the Union.
Ah, that makes sense.
