Technically, week 1 for the MVFC started last Saturday, when #1 NDSU beat #7 Charleston Southern in OT at the Fargodome.
For the rest of the teams in the conference, games start this weekend. So, outside of NDSU, here's what else is going on in the MVFC this week.
If the teams are ranked in the STATS FCS poll, that ranking is listed immediately before the team name.

Duquesne at Youngstown State - 6:30 PM on ESPN3
South Dakota at New Mexico (FBS) - 8:00 PM on ROOT Sports Southwest

Saturday, September 3rd
Butler at Indiana State - 2:00 PM on ESPN3
Southern Illinois at Florida Atlantic (FBS) - 5:00 PM
Valparaiso at #10 Illinois State - 6:00 PM on ESPN3
#5 Northern Iowa at Iowa State (FBS) - 7:00 PM

Here's some score updates for MVFC games if you haven't been watching.

Thursday
Missouri State beats Southwestern College, 57-0
Youngstown State beats Duquense, 45-10
South Dakota loses to New Mexico, 48-21 (yea, this was the one MVFC game where I wasn't rooting for the MVFC team...was close in the first part of the game, but UNM piled things on in the second quarter

Saturday
Southern Illinois loses to Florida Atlantic, 38-30 (looks like SIU might be a little better than last year, but FAU is REALLY bad too)
Indiana State beats Butler, 41-25
Illinois State beats Valparaiso, 50-13
Northern Iowa leads Iowa State 16-13 at halftime
South Dakota State is tied with #13 TCU 24-24 at halftime

Northern Iowa knocks off Iowa State on the strength of their defense, 25-20. UNI got 4 total turnovers in their direction, including 3 in the final 6ish minutes.

SDSU stuck with TCU for a long time, but their defense is gassed and their QB went out with a twisted ankle. TCU is now down 59-41 with about 4 minutes left in the game. No matter the outcome, it's still a very strong performance by SDSU.

Not MVFC, but also wanted to give a shout out to Coach Fishers' old team, Richmond, in beating (and never even trailing at any point in the game) Virginia 37-20.

And one other score, not MVFC, but our opponent next weekend, Northern Arizona, currently down 7-3 about halfway through the 2nd quarter against Arizona State.

Great games last night. SDSU trailing 4 in the 4th and a defended pass goes right to the WR and TCU scores. Could have been a different game if that ball went to SDSU. Still would have had their work cutout for them.

NAU got hammered the 2nd half, but they had a ball up for grabs to end the half that Butler caught and his foot was an inch out before crossing the goal. Would have been tied at half.

UNI's week 3 opponent EWU looked unstable on offense against Washington State. Cooper Kupp once again proving he's a top WR in all of college football. Wieneke doing the same against TCU and on their way to again be all Americans.

Watching UNI beat ISU on the IPAD and flipping between EWU beating WSU and SDSU hanging with TCU was a great night of FCS football.
