About a week ago, it was announced that Jacksonville University (Florida) would be dropping football. They were a DI FCS in the Pioneer League.

But also, DII members of the Northern Sun Conference, St. Cloud State and MN-Crookston will also be dropping football: http://www.startribune.com/st-cloud-sta ... 566043061/
St. Cloud State is just a bit northwest of the Twin Cities area and MN-Crookston is just a bit into MN close to Grand Forks, ND (where UND is located).

I think it is a sign of the times.

Unless you are in the FBS where you get a share of TV revenue, football is a financial issue. Even then, unless you're in one of the Power 5 conferences, you're losing money.

As schools, especially public schools, have to look at declining state support, they are going to have to make tough decisions.

There may also be fewer HS athletes to choose from, not just because of declining enrollment, but because of a much greater increase in HS eliminating FB because of health risk issues.
