Supposed to be completed in the spring. Probably will be open by the time the students head home in May.

IDOT says Macomb bypass to open to traffic next spring.

Put your thinking caps on guys. Money is absolutely not an issue here. You have all resources required to put together a nice rest stop area situated somewhere along or not too far removed from this new Macomb bypass stretch of asphalt. What would it look like? Is there some touristy-interest-grabbing "thing" that would be suitable for Macomb and/or west-central Illinois? I was inspired to ask these questions after seeing the Paul Bunyan Curling Stone tourist magnet located in Port Arthur, ON Canada.

Off the top of my head, the only thing I can come up with is something related to Lincoln and Douglass debates that went on in Macomb and throughout the area in 1858. Maybe something depicting the timeline and locations of the two as they made their way around the state.

Since construction started north of town I’d always thought a nice truck stop would be an absolute gold mine. About halfway between KC and Chicago. If only I had the liquid assets to invest.....

Maybe a GIANT piece of corn?

An enourmous window? This would be pretty neat, although the wind might make it impossible.

How about a big shiny roller bearing like the bean in Chicago?

I feel like there is something perfect that I just can’t put my finger on.

Ear of corn has already been done, but I do like it. A new Guinness Record Holder for largest ear of corn? Need to get the chemistry and ag departments together here. Could we have the only plastic ear of corn on the planet totally 100% derived from the processing of corn?

Why not a big Rocky on Parade, or maybe a few of the past ones, even if replicas?

You guys are good. A big Keystone Light statue with a nice size Rocky replica up against it pretending it is a fire hydrant, people would not only be stopping to take pictures, they would be making a special trip just to see it.
