Laptop requirement for students?

Miscellaneous discussions. Things that don't have anything to do with Western, Leatherneck Athletics, college sports in general, etc.

I was doing some trivia research for my upcoming Pigskin Pick'em contest this fall. Came across something interesting about ISU-b. They have a laptop requirement for ALL students. They also have a scholarship program in place to award them to incoming freshman who have demonstrated some scholarly success. I searched around to see if any Illinois public schools have that requirement and/or program and could not come up with much. Eastern appears to have one for its art students, UofI for sophomore and above architecture students but that is about all I could find. Could this be yet another area that WIU could step up and differentiate itself from other schools around the state. Sure, money is hard to find these days but the cost of a laptop is not all that much and it could be a decisive factor for a student deciding where to spend the next four years of his/her life.

Damn! They are getting laptops with solid state hard drives (no moving parts). I want one of those! The cost to ISUb is about $1K per student right now and they have partnered with Lenovo to make it easy.
Embrace the pace of the race.
