Truman just received over 9 million to renovate one of their administration buildings. Part of a Missouri Legislature bi- partisan decision to send 200 million to educational institutions in the state. Not a promise, being sent.

Truman did what Western needs to do, define itself. As the former Northeast Missouri State University (NEMO), they were also rans headed nowhere. Brave leadership changed that, emerging not just with a new name as Truman State, but with a new defined purpose as a public liberal arts university, a real liberal arts, not the quasi all things for all people Western has become. Form an alwo ran, fall-back option, Truman has become a destination of choice for students.
I believe they also tightened up admissions standards, which reduced enrollment a little, but allowed them to be more focused. Now they're really like a good private liberal arts school...that happens to actually be a public school.

It did not happen overnight for them. Their total makeover is going on 30 years now but they do have a very impressive list of national rankings at the moment.
