Was the WIU baseball record book changed? Thumbing through the current program/recordbook and thought some names were missing. Checked an older editon and sure enough, the recordbook changed. Here is one example...

CURRENT RECORDBOOK:

SINGLE SEASON EARNED RUN AVERAGE (1IP P/GP)
1. 0.41 Max Louderman (44 IP).............. 1952
2. 1.23 Aaron Michel (65.2).................... 2013
3. 1.29 Rick Reuschel (75.2).................. 1969
4. 1.57 Dick Howard (80)........................ 1965
5. 1.65 Bill Nafziger (49.1)...................... 1969
6. 1.74 Mickey Madison (51.2)................ 1959
7. 1.80 Frank Hutt (45)............................ 1955
8. 1.82 Paul Reuschel (94)..................... 1968
9. 1.86 Ed Gvazdinskas (63).................. 1971
10. 1.91 Mel Casper (61.1)....................... 1964

OLDER RECORDBOOK:

Single Season Earned Run Average
1. 1.26 Stan Scott ...................... 1984
2. 1.29 Rick Reuschel ................. 1969
3. 1.35 Rich Hodyl ...................... 1984
4. 1.57 Dick Howard ................... 1965
5. 1.61 John Turner ..................... 1976
6. 1.62 Don Brodt ....................... 1974
7. 1.65 Bill Nafziger .................... 1969
8. 1.89 Ed Gvazdinskas ............... 1973
9. 1.94 Mel Casper ..................... 1964
10. 1.97 Tony O’Connor ................. 1988

So Stan Scott was in the #1 spot in the older recordbook, and should be #2 in the new recordbook, but is missing entirely. But Rick Reuschel stayed on both lists. Same with some of the other names on this list. Some deleted, some not. Not sure what happened. First time I have ever seen a recordbook eliminating names. Usually people get knocked off the list by others having a better stat. But no changes on the career list for the same stat.

CURRENT RECORDBOOK

CAREER EARNED RUN AVERAGE
1. 1.94 Rick Reuschel .................. 1969-70
2. 2.00 Todd Nelson...................... 2007-08
3. 2.06 Quinn Leath .................... 2006-07
4. 2.19 Jim Johnson .................... 1963-66
5. 2.58 Ed Gvazdinskas ............... 1971-74
6. 2.67 Kurt Beenk ....................... 1984-85
7. 2.72 Tim Major ......................... 1977-80
8. 2.83 Kent Murphy .................... 1982-85
9. 2.91 Ron Fiala ......................... 1975-78
10. 3.09 Mel Casper ...................... 1963-66

4. 2.19 Jim Johnson ..................1963-66

the only thing that i can think of would be that they changed the qualification for the list.

Could be. Not sure what would have prompted something like that because most of the names are from years back - not like many recent vintage names were added. So who knows...

I played for several years as well. Can't judge baseball by record alone. We just don't have the facilities to square off against teams from the south for the first 20 games of the season. Conference play is all that truly matters. Just like basketball. While we would all like to win more games, the coach is not the issue. Having better weather in the winter and spring would help more than anything to get some live hitting outdoors.

Is it possible that how ERA is calculated was different in the 60s than later?

You can do a lot indoors with HitTrax. Do we have one of these?

So having a .300 winning percentage for 5 or 6 years in a row is accceptable? Respectfully, you can't be serious. As a former player, you are proud of this program the way it has been performing over the past 5-plus years? Apparently Dick Pawlow and Stan didn't have any problem winning game with the Macomb weather or with the facilities they had (and both coaches scheduled early games against top ranked teams)... In my opinion, also as a former player who is repeatedly asked to provide financial support to the program, this coach, while maybe a really nice guy, has been given plenty of opportunities - but he's earned a pink slip, because Division I athletic programs are about winning. Time to bring in new blood to try to bring it back to what it once was because it will never get there under this guy's leadership.

I don't think so. My guess is at some point someone in the AD's office might have decided to up the minimum number of appearances to get on the list...

Again, email or call the school for an answer! I don't believe folks on a message board can answer this concern, so, call or email the SID and find out. :?
