In Soccer, they have a single head coach responsible for both Men's and Women's teams who is supported by an Assistant Coach and 2 Graduate Assistant Coaches.

Why could not the same be done with Golf - move Lia to Director of Golf like Eric is Director of Soccer, then hire an Assistant Coach and perhaps 1 or 2 Graduate Assistant Coaches.
  • The Asst Coach is a requirement as it has to be an employee who travels with the team and Men's and Women's Golf can be heading different directions, just like in Soccer, so you need a Head and Asst.
  • The Graduate Asst(s) could alternate between teams depending on where needed, but not be the traveling or recruiting representative
This would save money but still support Men's and Women's Golf just like Men's and Women's Soccer. Similarly, before Men's Tennis was cut, a single Head Coach ran both programs. Swimming & Diving does the same as do all the Cross Country, Indoor Track & Field, and Outdoor Track & Field, but those area all easier as meets and championships are always joint compared to Golf and Soccer.

Makes sense to me, although part of the golf coach's duties include managing the golf clubhouse too. I'd imagine with maybe an extra coach or two it'd still be do-able for one person to handle both teams and the clubhouse. Now would be a good time to make that decision though, since the men's golf coach position is open.
