Does anyone know how big the video scoreboard at Hanson Field is? I see Missouri Western is putting up a 2,500 square foot board with 1 million LED's to make it the largest in D2. An alumni gift. I'm trying to visualize what 2,500 square feet looks like.

Our scoreboard is 32 feet wide and 8 feet tall (http://goleathernecks.com/news/2014/8/1 ... 44043.aspx), which is 256 square feet.
If their scoreboard is done in the same proportions as a standard HD tv (16:9), then it would be approximately 67 feet wide and 38 feet tall, which is about two of ours wide, and 4.75 of ours tall.
If their scoreboard is the same proportions as ours (which is pretty wide), then it would be 100 feet wide and 25 feet tall.

I'll gather up some numbers for a few other schools in our conference and update this post when I have them put together.

EDIT - the new video board at South Dakota State's new stadium is 3,100 square feet (100 ft wide and 31 ft tall), is the largest in the FCS (outside of Tennessee State, but that's only because they play at the NFL Titans' Nissan Stadium) and looks like this: http://state.sdstateconnect.org/wp-cont ... eboard.jpg

UNI had a new video board installed about a year or so ago that is 2,700 square feet (100 ft wide and 27 ft tall) and is the second largest in the FCS currently and looks like this: https://bloximages.chicago2.vip.townnew ... .image.jpg

Other schools in the conference, with rank in FCS:
12th - ISUb, 1,222 square feet, 26ft x 47ft, built in 2013
18th - SIU, 800 square feet, 40ft x 20ft, built in 2010
25th - YSU, 700 square feet, 35ft x 20ft, built in 2015

Missouri State's is roughly the same size as ours, and I'll have to do some more digging to find the others.

Indiana State - can't find any stats on theirs, but here's what it looks like....probably about the same size as ours, but more squarish.

Just another reminder of how much of a let down our video board really is. I think they can only add like 100 sf to it as well even tho it comes in small panels that is all the support structure is capable for from what I heard.

Given a choice of more LEDs or more points on the board, I will take more points every day of the week. ;)
Embrace the pace of the race.

Yes, but their citation link goes to this page: http://goleathernecks.com/news/2014/8/1 ... 44043.aspx which says 32x8. I'm more inclined to believe our own page rather than the wikipedia page that is incorrectly citing it.

Below is front on shot of the Video Board that I borrowed from facilities management facebook.

If we are assuming that the width is 32' and the height is 8' then a very rudimentary exercise should validate that claim.

Take a piece of paper line up one corner with the bottom corner of the video board. Now at the top of the board make a small demarcation on the paper now turn the piece of paper sideways (for the horizontal plane) one should be able to move that marked off line on our paper four times.......8+8+8+8=32

When I did this exercise I was able to move it three times and there was a small bit left over.....

Apparently there's a " battle of video boards" in D2. Grand Valley State is besting Missouri Western with a 2900 square foot board. :D

I saw that a town near Peoria is installing a videoboard that seems to be very similar to ours on their highschool field. I would guess it may not be as clear and not sure if it has all the features, but I saw online something about this board having $30,000 in donations to get it put up so if that really is all this costs I am shocked at what WIU got. I know we discussed last year how ISU installed a videoboard that was much much larger than ours for not even double the cost. I attached picture of the videoboard being installed near peoria.
