We are hearing talk coming out of Springfield that Higher Education reform and reorganization may be considered during the spring session of the General Assembly.

The current system of 9 separate Boards of Trustees was implemented in 1995 by Governor Edgar. There are 12 state universities.

Prior to 1995, there were 3 Boards of Trustees.

712, what will that mean? Will it be good or bad for WIU? Will it save WIU money?

That is an open-ended question as we do not know what proposals will be considered.

It could mean that there could be a governing board over-seeing multiple state universities like we had under the previous Board of Governors and Board of Regents systems.

Or it could mean that the state universities will specialize in certain assigned fields.

We need to adjust our federal and state tax laws to truly incentivize businesses and individuals to (re)locate to lower population areas around the country. We need to spread people out and allow EVERYONE to breathe again. People in big cities are spending way too much time commuting to and from work and the other places they need to go. People can be virtually connected from just about anywhere on the planet via today's technology.
Caution: My posts are worth 2¢ at best on a good market day.

Eastern Illinois appears to have turned the corner in their enrollment numbers. According to January’s enrollment management update, freshman admit numbers at EIU are higher than they have been in ten years for this point in time.

As for Spring 2018’s enrollment, EIU said that official numbers will go out the week of Jan. 22. There will likely be an increase in transfers, domestic graduates, and freshmen, with a decrease in international students.
