Just like the state's education system (or systems), the Illinois public radio and TV offerings are a freaking mishmash of stations that are not funded as a unit and certainly do not work together to achieve common goals for the good of the entire state. How many of us old-timers grew up watching Iowa girls 3 on 3 basketball over the airwaves on an Iowa Public TV station? Today, Iowa has one (1) statewide pubic radio system (IPR) and one (1) public TV system (IPTV). Yes, IPTV still does sports and even bigger and better than they did when I was a kid, not only high school sports but you can watch Iowa college wrestling as well. Someone tell that idiot Rauner we dont JUST want things to be funded like they were before. We want a comprehensive public radio and TV system under a single governing board that truly serves the needs of everyone. Maybe it makes sense for some WIU sports to be on WIUM. Certainly got better range than WIUS The Dog.

One of the most spot on comments to appear on this site. I don't think a truly statewide Illinois Public Radio would work, as WBEZ Chicago Public Radio wouldn't go for it, but I can absolutely imagine a unified downstate Illinois Public Radio network. There could be local 'bureau' news reporters located around the state, but there wouldn't be a need for so many administrators around the state and probably fewer technical staff, too, to work at so many separately operated stations.

Quite a few people very angry with this recent decision and how it went down (the fact that it was a 100% funding cut without any input from leadership of TSPR).

Gordon Rands: "This resource is an important, critical one for this community. And I urge you to look to other places to cut than something that every time it says its call letters is an advertisement for this university."

Why is it that WIUM is not online yet every NPR station surrounding is online?

right under the header bar where it has the "play" triangle next to "WIUM Tristates Public Radio" and the program that's being aired...press that.
