This is an 11% decrease from a year ago when 9,441 full-time and part-time students were enrolled during the Fall 2017 semester.

Enrollment decline sparks discussion in Faculty Senate.

And yet, President Thomas, and now Senior VP Rives, say we are all on track

It is going to take a little bit of time to right the ship Tere! It took a number of years for WIU to get to this point and it is going to take some time to positively change things back. ;) jc

Most reporters are poor at math. This is a 9.9% decrease from a year ago. Math is hard, I guess.

Yes, it takes time, but both Rives and Thomas ignored the problem for far too long, always giving excuses. Only because it has gotten as bad as it has is there any chance they'll even begin to pay attention and seek an understanding of what the real problems are instead of what they "think" they are.

We have just about hit that 6,000 enrollment number that President Goldfarb had predicted back in the early 2000's.

Yep, we should hit it in the spring when enrollment is typically lower than in the fall - grads and those not returning are greater than new students.

So it would not be surprising if we hit "low tide" in January. With strong commitment from faculty, staff, alumni, friends, and Macomb and a true direction, we should be on the way up next fall. We just got to get the word out and keep the students that come here for an education on campus and successful. You know 712, if Al predicted 6000 a number of years ago why didn't he start the process of change? ;) jc

The key is "a true direction."
