Are we now going to be stuck with a skewed BOT who wants this guy even though most people think it's a horrendous choice?
Apparently two of the three who didn't show up (Aguilar and Lang) were clear Rives supporters. The third, Shaw, was the unknown vote.

Hmmm.....I thought it sounded like it was going to go the other way. Just shows how things can be misinterpreted. Thanks for clarifying.

The two who were removed were split (one for Rives, one against Rives...I don't know who was who, but my guess is Jackie Thompson was against Rives). Of the remaining members, the 3 who did not show up were the ones who wanted Rives to be president. From my understanding...
8 person board (usually) - 2 removed (one that happened to be on each "side" of the "Rives issue") = 6 people on the board (3 for Rives, 3 against Rives)
One person against Rives was actually biking across the country (the student representative), and so the "pro-Rives" people thought they could push it through with only 2 people there against it.
The 2 people were able to get in touch with the student representative, who happened to be somewhere not too far away and was able to make it back to the QC area for the meeting.
When the 3 "pro-Rives" people saw that it was going to be a tie vote (and in that case, Rives would not be named Interim President), they all suddenly had other more pressing appointments to attend to. So then there wouldn't be a quorum and it wouldn't come to a vote at that time.

EDIT - apparently it was the two who were for sure "pro-Rives" that found other things to do. The third was a "swing vote", and that person was present.

Things just get more strange. All I know is that I'd prefer him NOT be in line for the job.

Like I said, outside of a few BOT members, nobody wants him anywhere close to a leadership position.

Would have been intriguing had the student trustee showed up unannounced and surprised everyone.

Aguilar is turning out to be a disastrous appointment by the Governor.

Actually, the 3 who didn't show up wanted Joe, but they knew they didn't have the votes. AKA, the chicken shits didn't want to face the music. Pretty stupid as by October, I bet we see how much better Abraham is and there will never be a chance for Joe again.

Thompson and Padgett were both against Rives being Acting VP. Those 2 were the most adamant against Rives in June.

In June, it was Lane and Aguilar who wanted Rives, Shaw actually voted with the majority for Abraham.

My understanding that when Lane, Shaw, and Aguilar found out the student rep was coming to "even the vote," they decided they had more pressing matters.

Exactly what happened. Total d*ck move. I wish the State Police visited their homes for a wellness check and a free ride to Moline.
