WIU Announces $10 Million Bio-Fuel Federal Research Grant

This is really cool. The National Institute of Food and Agriculture awarded 8 grants this year totaling $77.8 million, and WIU is getting one of the grants, for $10 million, to research the use of Pennycress as a cash cover crop for use in biofuel.

This is great! This likely wouldn't be possible without the new greenhouses they built out at the farm, good example of investing in the future paying off. Wonder what all the money will be used for specifically to advance the research.

Probably a lot of it goes to equipment, supplies for experiments, and stipends or other $ for grad and student assistants. One of the Marching Leathernecks that I know is an Ag Science major and she's going to be involved with this project. To say she's really excited would be an understatement.

Perhaps we will see the next phase of the greenhouse be built since it's been successful so far.
