Western 101!!!!! As far as I am concerned you are dead right about the effect of leadership and racial bigotry!!! And you sir, speak from the heart. WIU/Macomb is not immune to any of this. And to be honest, in my opinion, it's the difference between "urban culture" and "rural culture!" In my years at WIU it was all about long haired hippy freaks that may not apply, sitting with farmers on a Saturday morning at the donut shop in Macomb. I was not a long haired hippy, but I was a college kid with a stash, walking into their domain. I really enjoyed those times, I really enjoyed the discussions which eventually had to do with the price of beans and corn.

My wife handed me a book today, "Why are all the black kids sitting together at lunch?" The problems that Macomb is experiencing are no different than all the other universities throughout the United States. No school is immune to racial bias and negative comments. The key is how does the university respond???? The WIU/Macomb community includes students, faculty, staff, and towns people. All groups have a responsibility to make things right, to make things safe for all involved. JFK said, "ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country." Everyone needs to be responsible!!! Enough said! ;) jc

The vote to appoint Dr. Abraham as permanent president failed (4-4 vote). It looks like they will move forward with a national search with Dr. Abraham as interim president. I'm sure he is welcome to apply and interview for the permanent position.
