Higher education in the country is facing a severe funding crisis due to COVID-19.

Every college and university is facing an immediate cash-flow crisis as they are having to refund Room & Board fees.

For the University of Wisconsin, which has 11 campuses, that means returning $78 million.

The University of Arizona could lose more than $250 million. They have announced plans for furloughs and pay cuts for almost all of its 15,000 employees to save $93 million from mid-May through June 2021.

Colleges are worried that already enrolled students will forgo returning if the virus prevents re-opening the classrooms because students may not want to pay for on-line education.

Meanwhile, Kansas Wesleyan University has announced this week that they plan to open this fall as scheduled. On-ground classes for the semester will begin August 18.

There is a Western connection to the Kansas Wesleyan Football team. Myers Hendrickson is the Head Coach. Mike Famiglietti is an Asst Coach. Both are Western Football alumni. Former Western Football coach Mark Hendrickson is also an Asst Coach at Kansas Wesleyan.

Kansas Wesleyan finished the 2019 season with a 12-1 record. Their only loss came in the NAIA Championship Quarter-finals.

The prospects for a regular athletic season is not looking good under the Governor's new Five Phase Recovery Program.

Under the Governor's program, gatherings over 50 people would not be allowed until there is a "vaccine or effective and widely available treatment, or the elimination of new cases over a sustained period of time through herd immunity or other factors."
