Actually, the old Hy-Vee building is still there. It was remodeled and now houses the radio station and a few other offices.

Hy-Vee moved out to the east side of town maybe 15-20 years ago.

Well, I probably didn't phrase it correct, so the thought that neither are a grocery store & movie theater after I used them frequently is sad.

The cinema was there in 1971, but the pizza place and the old HyVee were not. In fact, the only other thing closer was the Brat House which was located in what is now a Martial Arts school. Saw the "French Connection" my first visit to the cinema. Saw Dr. Zhivago with my old girl friend about the time Imwas losing interest in her and the movie didn't help the matter. Took my future spouse to the "Sting" in 1974. You know, behind the broad cast center is a ravine that was suppose to be the new Hanson Field according to the strategic plan developed somewhere in the late 60's early 70's! Sorry I got off on a tangent! ;) jc

As I recall, I only saw one movie at that cinema. Name escapes me, not important, only the genre is - soft porn. In fact, its was so soft that at one point, a couple of male students casually walked down to the front of theater and started running their hands across the screen. I will never forget that as long as I live. Back in those days, the University Union even showed a couple of the more popular X-rated flicks. Ahhh, the good ol' days. Nowadays, every dorm room is its own theater. LOL

The IL 336 NB Lanes have been placed out for bid by IDOT with a bid date of June 12th @ 10 AM. These are only the NB lanes and all of their bridges and ramps. Hopefully as soon as the NB lanes are finished or even just before they are finished they put the SB lanes out for bid. Looks like the project is expected to take about a year and half or 250 Working Days so most likely End of year 2016.

Just heard on the News that the proposed new Student Union at UIS has been put on "hold".

UIS has all of the designs done, and construction was set to begin.
