Joe Rives was hired in April 2005 as "Assistant to the President for Planning and Budget" and eventually appointed VP for Quad Cities in Planning in January 2008.

Note that Planning is a key element in the title, with Joe Rives leading the Strategic Planning effort.

So my question, what the hell has Rives been doing for 13 years that now requires a President's Executive Institute as New Initiative. Joe has had access to the data, access to the people, and has accomplished little other than personal professional advancement with no value to the university goals.

A Macomb business owner told me yesterday that the merchants in town are getting very nervous about what is going on right now at Western.

The current Labor-Management contract dispute has now been joined by an upcoming "No Confidence" vote in the university's administrative team.

With the possibility of the State re-organizing and/or consolidating the state university system, a campus having perceived "problems" puts itself in a very risky position.

This business owner told me that anyone who is not concerned or worried about Western's future really needs to be.

Faculty-driven petition calls for administration confidence vote.

If you live in or around Macomb and haven’t been worried about WIU for the last 3-5 years you are delusional.

This has not been a good week for Western P.R. First, there was the video of the fight inside the Thompson Hall Dining Center that was on the TV news. Then there is the upcoming "No Confidence" vote regarding the university's administrative team.

So are there only the two choices (I have confidence, I dont have confidence) for the upcoming no confidence vote? Should not there also be an I abstain choice? Or is act of not voting the same as an abstain vote? If you only got 24% of the faculty to sign petition in the first place, I would not be suprised if only about half of the members even bother to vote.

Well, a fight recorded on instagram never is helpful but i do think the university got big time cudo's on how this one was handled. Not sure if there were others, I kinda think there may have been, but Jack T. needed to take a stand and he did on this one. If anyone asks questions about it, I would say, "we don't put up with that!" "Anyone involved in this type of activity is no longer welcomed at WIU.

The no-confidence vote has been on the horizon for quite sometime with all of the changes Jack T has proposed, the negotiations with the faculty union, and of course the financial situation from the state of Illinois. Besides that, we keep getting mentioned when ever a financial expert talks about higher education. I don't think the no-confidence vote is going to indicate faculty no confidence as you might think. I vote of confidence means Jack T can take it to the bank that he has the backing for changes and a more versatile university. Both situations are indications of positive movement which may be negative at the moment, but could serve to move WIU forward in the direction necessary. Just a way to "lance the boil!" Of course just my opinion!

Amanda Silberer, a faculty member did a nice job framing the problems WIU faces and does a nice job talking about the reasons for the non-confidence vote explained from a different perspective. I have read the article a couple of times and it is very informative. Thanks 712 for including it. I hope everyone reads it! UW-Stevens Point is mentioned. They are also being proactive in a way very similar to WIU.
