Looks like I will be a no-show in Cookeville (deck boards arriving on Thursday, were supposed to be here last Friday). Also looks like Harvey will be sending out his advance party just about kickoff time.
Embrace the pace of the race.

I was working on quite a bit of writing and stuff yesterday, so I wasn't able to post that yesterday was 2 days left...

#2 for the Leathernecks is Junior Wide Receiver Isaiah LeSure

Isaiah has played in 21 games in the last two years, caught 35 passes for 472 yards and 6 TDs (425 yards and 5 TDs last season). He also did some work on kick returns last season, with 7 returns for 107 yards. He is listed as one of the three starting WRs for the first game this season and is from Mount Horeb, WI...the Troll Capital of the World.

Other #2's include:

And finally....today...the football team has loaded the bus and began their trip down to Cookeville...the skies are blue in Macomb (although they won't be down in TN tomorrow)...and we are 1 day away from the kickoff to the 2017 Leatherneck Football Season.

We have two #1's on the roster, both are (for NCAA eligibility purposes) seniors and both are transfers from other programs.
First up, Senior Wide Receiver Jarid Brown
Image
Brown comes to Western by way of Ohio University (FBS, MAC) where he was a 4-year member of the Bobcats program. He played in 12 games over the last three years, and last year had 5 catches for 49 yards. He's a Sport Management major and originally from Huntington, Maryland.

And...

Senior Defensive Back Brandon Mayes
Image
Mayes had a bit shorter of a trip to get here, being originally from Aurora, IL and having attended NIU for the last four years. He played in 40 games over the previous 3 active seasons, has 187 career tackles and had a career-high 12 tackles in our game against NIU last season. He also has 5 career interceptions, 1 forced fumble, and 1 fumble recovery.

Other #1's in Leatherneck History include:
Albert Brown................................ 1986
Demeris Johnson...................1990-92
Darnell Harrison.......................... 1994
Vince Jackson........................1996-97
Jimmy Robinson.......................... 1998
Jason McWilliams...................2001-02
Terry Tharps................................ 2001
James Wright............................... 2003
Richard Brown........................2004-05
Carl Sims................................2005-08
Marshon Royal............................ 2007
Cameron Jackson....................... 2008
Sam Power.................................. 2009
Lito Senatus...........................2009-10
Chris Boone............................ 2011-12
Fredson Salomon........................ 2013
Joey Borsellino.......................2014-16

Albert Brown was a Second Team All-Conference and FB Gazette Honorable Mention WR in 1986. He has the 2nd longest reception in Western history with a 96-yard TD catch against UNI in 1986, and he is tied for the 2nd longest rush (yea...rush) in Western history with an 86-yard run against Kansas State in 1986. That year he led the team in receptions (39), receiving yards (595), and kickoff return yards (531, 27.9 per return w/ 1 TD).

Demeris Johnson was a First Team All-Conference, FB Gazette Third Team, and Sports Network Honorable Mention WR in 1992. He has the 3rd best game performance for receptions (13 against Indiana State in 1992), and the 10th (tied) longest reception in school history with an 83-yard TD catch against Morgan State in '92. His 1992 performance ranks him #2 (tied) on the list of TDs in a season (12), #8 for yards (988) and #5 in yards per game (89.8). In his career, he totaled 1,477 yards (11th), 17 TDs (4th), had a 16.9 yards per reception average (6th) and 64.2 yards per game average (8th).

Jason McWilliams was an All-Conference Honorable Mention LB in 2001 and 2002. He also received a FB Gazette Honorable Mention in 2001.

Terry Tharps was named to the conference All-Newcomer team in 2001 as a return specialist. In 2001, he recorded 21.1 yards per reception (7th on the list) and was the kickoff return leader with 19 returns for 493 yards including one taken 100 yards for a TD (tied for the longest in school history) against Sam Houston State in 2001.

Carl Sims was an All-Conference Honorable Mention in 2006 and 2007. He racked up 136 career receptions (#6 on the list) and 1,724 receiving yards (#8). He also has the 8th most kick returns in a season (25) and 7th most kick return yards (564) in 2007.

Lito Senatus - led the Leathernecks in receptions and receiving yards in '09 and '10. Lito has the 3rd best receiving performance in a game in Leatherneck history, with 235 yards against Sam Houston State in '09 and he also shows up at #7 on that list with 210 yards against Illinois State in '10 (him and Frisman Jackson are the only players to go over 200 yards twice in a career). He's tied with himself at 5th for most receptions in a season (65 catches in both '09 and '10) and holds the record for TDs in a season with 14. He's #2 on the list for yards in a season with 1,145 in '10 (one of only 7 times a Western receiver has caught for more than 1k yards in a season). His 5 100+ yards games in 2010 tie him with 3 other players for the most in a season. For career numbers (and just FYI, this is through 3 years, he played his first season at a JUCO school) include 4th on the all-time receptions list (149), 4th on the career yards list (2,269), and 2nd on TDs (21). He still holds the record for consecutive games with a TD catch with 7.

Fredson Salomon was named to the conference All-Newcomer Team in 2012 as both a WR and Return Specialist. He's tied for 6th in Leatherneck History for kick returns in a season, with 26 returns in 2012.

Joey Borsellino's name will probably always be paired with Lance Lenior’s as the best receiving duo in Leatherneck history, but while Lenoir’s name is going to finish at the top of many of the WIU receiving record books, Joey by himself is still one of the most productive WIU WRs in the history of Leatherneck football, starting in 2013 as a true freshman, and playing all 48 games over his entire 4 years.
  • 62 receptions in 2015, 7th best season in WIU History
  • 182 career receptions, #2 in WIU History
  • Caught at least 1 pass in 34 straight games
  • 2,363 career receiving yards, #3 in WIU History and 16th in MVFC history
  • 5 100+ yard games, tied for 8th in WIU history
  • 13 career TDs, tied for 8th in WIU history
  • Had a career high 187 yards receiving against Indiana State on November 14th, 2015
