I posted Probability of K Wins for Western a couple days back. Here is a look at all of the teams in conference. Close call between SDSU and YSU for 2nd spot in conference ranking. NOTE: ISUr is not the sheet - their schedule on the conference web site is screwed up (or at least unlike the others) so I have to kludge up something special to pull them in to the picture. What better way to spend the first day of August. Always a bad apple in the bushel.

Update: The bad apple has been turned in to applesauce. ;)

The way it looks to me, you have NDSU out in front. SDSU and YSU battling for second. ISUr and UNI battling for next best spot. WIU, SIU, and USD in the next group. ISUb and MSU trailing the pack. The road to the playoffs goes through Cedar Falls and Normal.

Embrace the pace of the race.

I'm one of the few people who has no believe in these win probability thing the fact that it has YSU and SDSU close just shows why I don't believe in it i personally believe that there are 4 games that will determine if we are playoff team 3 of those on the road @ NAU ISU and UNI and the home game with USD WIU has a very unbalanced schedule which we have had for several years and this is the year were we play most of are toughest games on the road I personally see us @ 7-4 and sneaking in to the playoff I think we are going to see a much improved defense with the offense being down just a bit.

From everything I've heard and read, I gotta go with Leatherneckcountry on this one.

YSU got extremely lucky and made it to the championship game with practically no offense and a stellar defense. The majority of that defense is now in the NFL. I think the Penguins caught "lightning in a bottle" last year, but I just don't see it happening for them this year. They just don't have the talent for it.

UNI lost D-Lineman Karter Schult to the NFL. They still have Farley's kid, who is probably the 3rd best LB in the conference behind NDSU's DeLuca and our own Brett Taylor, but not much for offense, and they've had some SERIOUS coaching staff issues over the offseason. Like...lost the majority of their assistant coaches and had to replace everyone. I've seen UNI fans predicting a losing season for their team. It might be a bit of "sandbagging", and I don't think that the UNI game will be easy (it almost never is), but it's going to be a down year for them.

NDSU and SDSU are likely going to take the top two spots, and then really the next four are pretty much up for grabs between YSU, ISUr, UNI, and us. Past that, you've probably got USD and SIU hanging out just below the middle, then MSU followed by ISUb. The consensus among most is that ISUb will be the bottom of the conference this year, although MSU doesn't have pretty much their only "big name" player anymore and have had some serious QB issues.
