Game Notes
Western Illinois
Youngstown State
History: WIU and YSU have played 32 times beginning in 1969. WIU won last year's matchup, 45-38 in Macomb. Prior to that, we did not play the Penguins for two years. Our game against Jim Tressel-led Youngstown State in 1997 was the "best" combined matchup in terms of ranking for WIU. WIU was #2 and YSU was #4 (and that year's eventual national champion)...WIU won that game 24-21.
WIU in 2018 - 5-6 overall, 4-4 in the MVFC
WIU in 2019 - 0-7 overall, 0-3 in the MVFC
YSU in 2018 - 4-7 overall, 3-5 in the MVFC
YSU in 2019 - 4-3 overall, 0-3 in the MVFC
YSU this year has wins over Samford, Howard, Duquesne, and Robert Morris, which was followed up by losses to Northern Iowa, South Dakota State, and Southern Illinois.
Location: Stambaugh Stadium (The Ice Castle), Youngstown, OH
Weather Prediction: Rain with temps in the mid-50s. ~10 mph winds.
Odds:
Massey Ratings - 8% chance of WIU win, with a predicted score of 35-14 for the Penguins..
Sagarin Ratings - YSU 88% chance of victory

Another week, another "dumpster fire" loss...Ugh!

There's always a chance. YSU did get surprisingly steamrolled by SIU last weekend. We play like we did last Saturday, but minus a few key mistakes, and we could pull out a win. Illinois State is a much better team than Youngstown is right now.BobLovely wrote:Another week, another "dumpster fire" loss...Ugh!

To be honest, if they show as much improvement offensively as they did last week, I wouldn't even consider a loss a "dumpster fire". Long as they're stepping up and showing growth, I personally can deal with a winless season and look forward to better times coming. I keep forgetting how young most of these players are, and how much difference a season under their belts can make.
Maybe I really am an eternal optimist.

The "Fire Pelini etc" threads gaining some traction on the 'Guins board should be worth at least 7 points for us in the Ice Castle.
Embrace the pace of the race.
I noticed that. Our griping is mild compared to theirs, lol!!!sealhall74 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2019 9:29 am The "Fire Pelini etc" threads gaining some traction on the 'Guins board should be worth at least 7 points for us in the Ice Castle.
I don't know for sure, but it sounded like the bus ride to Alabama at the beginning of the season was so they could afford to fly to Youngstown and Fargo.
