Southern Illinois
History: WIU and SIU have played 64 times starting in 1933, with WIU holding a 37-23-4 series lead. WIU at one point had an 18-game win streak against the Salukis (1984 to 2001). Following that, SIU took over the series for 9 straight years. Since then, it's been a bit more back and forth, with WIU taking the last two matchups, including scoring 20 in the 4th quarter for a 34-31 come-from-behind victory last year in Carbondale.
WIU in 2018 - 5-6 overall, 4-4 in the MVFC
WIU in 2019 - 1-9 overall, 1-5 in the MVFC
SIU in 2018 - 2-9 overall, 1-7 in the MVFC
SIU in 2019 - 6-4 overall, 4-2 in the MVFC
Location: Hanson Field, Macomb, IL
Weather Prediction: Mostly cloudy, ~38 degrees at kickoff, 5% chance of precipitation, ~9 MPH winds.
Odds:
Massey Ratings - 13% chance of WIU win, with a predicted score of 34-17 for the Salukis
Sagarin Ratings - SIU 86% chance of victory
We successfully avoided our first winless season since 1944 (0-8), but we'll need one more victory in our final two games to not set the school record for most losses in a season (1-10 in 2009). Considering the last game is at the UNIDome, against the (currently #4 ranked) Panthers. If we're going to get another win, this is likely going to be it. Massey gave us a 19% chance of beating USD, and we did it. A 13% chance isn't really that far off that one. Besides, we've got nothing to lose at this point. SIU actually has a halfway decent chance at making the playoffs this year, but they need a win Saturday to get there. Lets smash some playoff hopes this weekend.
