Football Recruits - 2021

In the last couple of years, it seems like the trend has been (for many schools, including Western) to send out hundreds of offers to kids...many of whom are highly unlikely to have much interest in Western, at least in the near future. Because of this, last season I stopped tracking individual offers and only post/track players who have at least verbally committed. I do make sure to retweet any offer announcements and commitments that I see at the Leatherneck Nation twitter account, so those can be viewed here: https://twitter.com/LeatherneckFans.

If anyone has seen any verbal commits for 2021 that I miss, please let me know or post them here. I haven't seen any yet, but I know offers have started going out, so we might start to see commitments at some point soon.

Just FYI, a ton of new offers went out today. You can check those out at the above linked twitter account.

Just wondering instead of giving out offers to every high school player in the Midwest should we not just put all our effort towards a few kids that we actually have a shot at instead of wasting time on kids who have 20 offers and are never going to give WIU the time of day.

My thought on that is that those offers are more of a "long-term investment". Not all of those kids are going to end up being starters at B10 teams, and not all of those kids are going to be happy riding the bench for most of their careers. If they decide they want to move down to FCS and have a decent shot at starting right away, we want to be near the top of their minds for interested schools. Usually FBS to FCS transfers don't really do a huge amount, but every now and then you come across an Aaron Stecker.

If you have a limited travel budget for recruiting, it makes a whole lot of sense to let others do your reconnaissance.

It looks like he's actually a "2020" commit, in that he can play right away. I posted his info in the 2020 signing day thread (http://www.leathernecknation.net/forum/ ... 514#p30514)
He graduated HS in 2019, was at Navy last season, but didn't play, is transferring here with 4 years of eligibility and because he's going FBS->FCS, he should be able to start right away.

Most of those offers are just free advertisement. These kids can't wait to tweet a new offer. The Coaches aren't really spending any time recruiting those kids.

Love this commit, hope it sticks! We really need to make a bigger splash in StL. It's relatively close, and there's a ton of talent.
