Well we officially broke into the top 25 of one of the polls and one of the most important. The GPI poll as we were informed by STLredbird has us listed at # 25 currently. This also broke a record that we had set the previous week with the most teams from 1 conference(9) being in the top 25. To see some more data go to the link below.

Yea, the GPI is kinda like the FCS version of the BCS formula. Supposedly it is one of the primary resources for the playoff selection committee at the end of the season. I think it's a bit premature to expect that we'd make the playoffs this year, but I like that so many of the conference teams are ranked in it. Maybe this year we'll actually get a decent number (4...maybe even 5) of teams in the playoffs. I've seen the argument made elsewhere that pretty much anyone who finishes in the top half of the conference should really be in the playoffs (maybe even more). Whether they actually put 5 MVFC teams in there is a whole 'nother thing entirely.

Scott, say the word if I'm posting too much here. I'm no troll, I can assure you. If I may, I would offer for consideration the following article from a fortnight ago on TSN. We deserve a minimum of five.

We welcome any commentary and info from conference mates and other friendly folks. Feel free to post as much as you like.
We've got a Jackrabbit fan (OldHare) who's relatively active here also and....well....I haven't banned Lakesbison yet (although a lot of other forums have and I've been tempted to at times). Only bans I've ever had to do were for spambots.

You guys probably don't want to hear from a Redbird fan, but I thought this was worth offering. Leathernecks still hanging in there at #25 in the Massey composite. I'm sure you know this, but GPI is subset of Massey composite.

Heck, we don't mind hearing from you, STLRedbird. Not gonna deny it was a tough loss, but you guys earned the win. I think the main thing we all want is to see them improving week to week - it's still basically a young squad, so I for one, am looking at the longer picture.

More wins would be great, don't get me wrong. ;)

Thanks for the info!

Pleased to hear it, rocki. I can be a real homer at times, but I promise to leave at the door when I log in here. Thought I would share that WIU maintained #25 in the GPI. The conference is just ridiculously deep this year - unprecedented really, including the glory days for the CAA. If we don't get five in then we need new leadership at the top of the conference, I think. Or at least we replace Ron Strollo as the conference representative on the selection committee. I have been accused of holding strident opinions on the matter.

If there was any justice in the world, Western would be talked about as a bubble team right now. Just like William & Mary and Cal Poly, who bracket it in the GPI. Strength of schedule means nothing in FCS.

Well, it is what it is.

Playing tough with as young as this team is overall, the future looks brighter. Sucks for the seniors this year, but......

Now if we could just get them to keep out of trouble. :x
