Without getting into specifics of the candidates, who would you like to see as our next HC?
Feel free to toss out names if you want. Do you want someone with a connection to the program now? Someone who's had a connection in the past?
Who do you want to see as a new HC?

He will likely take some key people, those left he likely doesn't feel confident in-why should we. I vote new blood, get someone with good D-1 knowledge and experience. Up and coming associate coach or top assistant. They might not stay long, but, who has recently?

Glen Caruso from St. Thomas (DIII) is interesting to me. Some USD folks thought likewise. All he does is win. Must be doing something right. I doubt we could pry him loose though.

Personally, I don't think I want anyone lower than a D2-level coach (unless he's already got a decent amount of D1 experience). Mostly because if you've only ever coached at D3, you don't have any experience managing scholarships and likely don't have much experience recruiting outside of your region.
I'm just starting to think up some ideas myself...I do have one person in mind as a possibility, but I'll hold off for now to get other people's thoughts on it.
Also...just fyi:

What, Western doesn't have an AD capable of announcing news within his department???

Maybe we should have a poll about whether to hire a national search firm (like USD) or go it alone (like SIU). Oh, never mind.

Yea, Entz, if he's looking to move up to a HC position, might be good. Might only be here for a few years, but he's strong on defense and he's already familiar with Macomb, having been here in 2013. He's also very familiar with the conference, having coached at UNI for 3 years before he came to Western, and having been at NDSU now for 2 years.vatusay wrote:Matt Entz would be interesting.
I think Blazek would be good if surrounded with the right assistants.
Too bad Brian Ward is long gone onto bigger and better things.
Ward is also a really good defensive coach, but you're right, I think we missed that opportunity...he'll be coaching Bowling Green in their bowl game, then off to be the DC at Syracuse.

Don Patterson. He would work wonders with this talent on offense. Let Blazek handle the recruiting and keep young coaches around him.
I'm sure the lawsuit details can be smoothed over
