Missed on some JUCOs, but also got some 3x3 and 4x3s as well, so they still have time to develop. Problem is, we have 6 or 7 studs per class, where schools like UNI or ISU are getting 10-15 per class. We need to upgrade the facilities to compete in recruiting. This is where the grad transfers and JUCOs help. We have room for them, where other schools don’t.

What’s killing us now is we missed on a couple JUCOs and transfers on the OL that left us very very young. If we had a couple more upper class men in our line we’d be in much better shape right now. There’s talent there, just not D1 ready yet.
Great perspective GV Dad.

Hey, I am still in the suburbs, supporting the Necks by looking and recruiting new Leatherneck Club members. My wife and I enjoyed homecoming, I attended a very very positive alumni gathering in Plainfield and am still "purple and gold" thru and thru. People have asked me about our football team and my only comment is, "we are just not very good" this year. We have our moments, but we can't sustain the effort. I have stated a number of times that I was a high school coach and Iived through the building process. As has been stated, the foundation of any football team is the line (O&D) and thats where we are having our main growing pains at the moment. Last Saturday I was struck with how different our offense was with Max Norris in the line-up and then he got twisted around and he was done for the day. Just can't help believing that that was the moment that the game and momentum swung to the Sycamores! More to come! ;) jc

QB Grant Ferrauilo is also leaving.
Originally Wayne, NJ -> El Camino College (CA JUCO) -> WIU

He's a sophomore, and if it looks like we're sticking with Sampson through the end of next year, he wouldn't have gotten to start until he was a Senior...if even then.

Honestly, do kids come for the facilities???? Yes, sure they are nice, but if facilities are what makes your decision, I feel sorry for you as a person. Heck, just be a bench warmer at Big Facility U if that's all you want.

I don't think it's the primary reason a kid will choose a school, but I'm sure it factors in. If you're choosing between a few roughly equivalent schools...say 3-4 MVFC schools...and they all feel like they'd be solid choices, it's going to make a difference. We've probably lost a few kids to ILSU and SDSU over the last few years because of it.

Or lose them because of program recognition, location, staff, etc. ??

Also possible...It's hard to know what the thought process is in a kid's head when choosing to go to a school. Maybe they just happened to see large group of attractive college students walk by when they were on their campus tour...who knows.

But I'm sure the facilities plays a pretty big role in how campus looks and feels to visiting student athletes.

Removed from roster:

Freshman QB L.T. Beck from Burlington - redshirt walk-on this year. It's possible it didn't look like he was going to get offered a scholarship and decided to look elsewhere.
Senior OL Reno Rosene - grad transfer from Duke. Not sure if he played at all this year (he's not showing up on the participation list). Possibly was injured during practice or something and didn't end up playing?
