That being said, a good coach can win here: Margenthaler, Kerwin and Molinari.

Jeter seems to have good experience and comes from the midwest. He has been a part of several successful programs from better conferences than ours and has made it to the NCAA Tournament and won games against power schools.
Winning consistently over a 5 to 8 year period is a whole nother matter. None of those 3 managed to do it.
Margenthaler never had much success after the D2 to D1 transition. Kerwin was fighting against Homer Drew year after year. Mo was fighting against many demons. lol
Embrace the pace of the race.

And Leroy (Stix) Morley. He was the Head Coach at Western 1947-1969. His record during that time was 365-215. Morley took Western to seven NAIA finals, and the team took second place in 1955 and in 1958.

In the 1955 NAIA Championship game, St. Benedict (Kansas) beat Western 62-56.

In the 1958 NAIA Championship game, Tennessee State beat Western 85-73.

I don't know what to think, wasn't real familiar with him. doesn't seem to have too bad of a resume. If he is a candidate leads me to be they must be willing to spend some money. i doubt he is taking a discount to come to WIU, unless he wants to be a head coach again pretty bad.
From what I could find his 2018 salary was 250k.

That's a pretty huge difference from what we paid Wright ($132.5k). On the other hand, if he's angling for a HC job and is able to turn us around in a few years, he's likely getting a lot of high mid-major interest. I'm ok with being a stepping stone if he ends up being successful.

Whoa I'm ready to get all behind him, if this is true and he accepts. Hopefully his first calls are to Zion and Pyle to try to get them to stay. I wonder if it will come out who the other finalists were.

So, I'm assuming he's interested (otherwise he wouldn't have interviewed/applied), and we're obviously interested. Now it probably just depends on if he's willing to accept what we're able to pay.

EDIT - sounds like the numbers and stuff are close enough to what both parties want to be able to be hammering out the final details:

Zion, Ben, and Sincere. I hope they all stay with WIU. Pretty excited for a new chapter for the program.

Losing Kobe is tough. He made some key buckets during his career and was fun to watch. Obviously....wish he would have felt out the new coach before making the change to Nebraska. He was on pace to likely make our Athletics Hall of Fame. Wish him well!

Hopefully he can keep the remaining talent on board. There is plenty of talent....someone just needs to change up an offensive and defensive scheme on a regular basis. Being the worst defensive team in the country is why this team seems to struggle. Hopefully a couple of changes get made and we surprise the WORLD!
