I watched some last year video of them. They can potentially bring a lot to the play table. Especially watch out for that fake jet sweep with receiver throwing pass back across the field.

I initially put this in wrong thread. If they pull this play out of their bag, don't say I did not warn you.

Yup, they can be pretty devastating. If we can figure out how to contain their offense, I think it'll go a long way towards helping us figure out how to potentially stop SDSU's combo of QB Christion (333 yards and 3 TDs against FBS TCU) and WR Wieneke (196 yards and 2 TDs against FBS TCU). Christion isn't quite as good of a QB as Cookus, but Wieneke is a better receiver than Butler (and all are very good at what they do), so it's somewhat comparable. NAU and SDSU have probably be the best QB/WR combos that we'll go against this season in the FCS.

Oh btw way, anybody know if Sean McQuire is still starting?
McQuire? lol Really RedNeck? Yes, from the ancient Scottish clan of the McQuires.

I ought to lose posting privileges for that one.

The game notes just came out today and it looks like McGuire is still listed on the depth chart as the starter.

I wonder if Coach Fisher is going to have him on kinda a short leash though. Give him a shot, but if he's not hitting throws and our running game just isn't working, he might give Norvell a try. I'd imagine if it's more like the EIU game, where he's not doing well on the throws, but we're still building up a lead, he might just leave him in to try to get him more comfortable with it.
Hopefully it'll all be moot anyway and McGuire will come out "guns blazin'".

Missouri Valley vs. Big Sky is trend of big FCS non-conference games.

Sorry it took this long to come back here. I'll try to give you guys a good scouting report on us. Oh, first as far as I know of there isn't an NAU message board of note, which is a little depressing, but there are also myself and the paper's reporter covering the team and we aren't coming out for the game unfortunately.
Our strength is our offense, especially at QB and WR, by the obvious pre-season accolades. Our QB Case Cookus is a great story. We had a transfer from Arizona supposed to come in, but a week before classes started he got an offer to be at Virginia, so he took it....and now is the backup and hasn't had one snap. Karma perhaps. So we went looking for a QB and thanks to relationships our coaching staff has, found a kid at a JC in California. Within four weeks he was our starter and went crazy his first year. 37 TDs and 5 picks and he can name all the picks he had and what he did wrong. He's a great kid and a great QB. Our WR's are deadly as I think someone mentioned. Our #1 is Emanuel Butler, who has NFL skill. I call him Little Fitz, after Larry Fitzgerald. His nickname here is "Man hands" he just catches everything. Our #2 is Elijah Marks, who had 174 yards receiving last week against Arizona State, he's our speed guy. The number #3 is Delshawn McClellon who is a grad transfer from Utah and he was the Utes fastest player last year, but his hands are so-so. Our RB's are pretty decent. We have 1 and 1A. 1 is Kendyl Taylor, a smallish player but runs hard, then 1A is Corbin Jountii who is the bigger of the two. We have a veteran OLine, but if someone goes down it gets interesting. Very solid though.
Our weekness is probably our DBs and special teams. The DBs are good, but just green. Our front seven is pretty stout and can tackle. ASU ran the ball down our throats last week in the 4th and wore us out, thus the lopsided score, but it was a game for three quarters and 10-3 at the half. We have a brand new punter and kicker, so that will be interesting to see develop.
In my short watching of highlights last week it seems you have a pretty mobile QB that doesn't throw a bunch. Pretty much a pro-style offense with good backs and line. Kind of a throw back to 90s offenses which I love by the way. Not sure if I nailed it or not, but you guys can tell me. Looks like you have an aggressive defense too. I expect a very tight game that could come down to the end. It wouldn't surprise me at the least. I've been looking forward to the game a lot. Should be fun.
If you guys have Twitter and want to talk more, especially on game day, follow me @davezorn72 Any other questions, let em fly. I love this stuff.

Guys, it was the first game of the season and he was under a lot of pressure several times. I was on the sideline for the game and our O-Line has to get better which they will! He may have overthrown some passes but the one play the EIU defender made a nice play at the last second that would have been a sure TD and the other Joey Borsilino had his guy beat bad but the defender held him and the penalty was called.
Sean is a leader and will only get better! Coach Fisher said he wanted to establish the run first which we did...the passing game will come. If you look at the time of possession we held a 10 minute advantage...35 to 25. And believe me we have to control the time of possession this week with the weapons Northern Arizona has!
The kid is 4-1 as a starter and has beat some good teams plus the players love him and respect him...that's why he's a captain! Think about this...our All Conference and potential All American WR dropped his first pass last week so REMAIN CALM!
If you think about it...the last 3 games against Illinois State we led in the 3 qtr until our staff got outcoached in the 2nd half of those games especially Yelk and his defense!! 2015 we led 24-6 at half and our HC and OC got conservative offensively and blew the lead! In 2016 we took a 28-21 on our first drive of the third qtr and we led the playoff game well into the 3 qtr until Yelk got outcoached again!! These kids can play with anyone...they just have to learn how to close which this staff can teach them!
That was the first pressure the kid has felt since the playoff game against Illinois State game last year. They don't let anyone get close to the QB in camp or practice...thus the red practice jersey.
I can assure you Sean will be ready to go this week. You don't lose your job after one game...WE WON!!!!
There were a lot of FIRSTS last week...new coaching staff, new offense, new defense, new special teams and outside of a couple bad plays defensively we controlled the game!! Once our defense got past the first drive they got it figured out and did a nice job until those two plays. These kids are good and I have never felt or seen a team that has so much respect for each other and are so close and have each other's back. I wish each and everyone of you could experience a game from the sidelines and hear them talk to each other as well as the coaches. It's unbelievable!!!
