wonderdog wrote:Quiet honestly I just don't get it!...how long dose it take to see if someone can run your system on offense before you make a change? Since last year coach has been saying how important it is for Trent to play better either you have it or you don't, miss throws, miss reads, average 2 int a game, fumbles etc. Now I know some receivers miss catches but it's not as noticeable when you miss wide open receivers and miss handle snaps and cost us points he's not a very good athletic player either so How can the coaches open up the play book when they don't have the right commander leading the offenses ?!? It's Torture!!! to the fans who have seen the playing of a Matt Barr... Not even close you can break all the passing records but if you don't WIN it means Nothing No one will remember

Really? How long have you been watching 'Neck football, wonderdog? I find it amusing that you bring up Matt Barr - if you watched him from the beginning of his time at WIU, I can't believe you don't remember how horrible everyone thought he was. It was a pretty dismal start, in my opinion, and most people would have never seen him ending up in competition for the Buck Buchanan award. See, a lot of us have been around a long time. We've seen players develop over their college careers. (You want to talk awesome players? Think Russ Michna for the "recent" past.)

Yes, we suck. Yes, we need to change whatever is wrong. At this point I don't think firing the coach is going to do anyone any good, other than to be able to say "yeah, we stink, but we're under a new coach now learning a new system" as an excuse. Where are the problems? I'm not on the inside, I don't know. Nikko being suspended put a huge dent in our ground game. We're working on getting it going again, but it doesn't happen overnight. Snaps are lousy, passing is lousy, catches aren't being made. Is it the QB's fault, or are the receivers not where they are supposed to be? What's with the enormous number of bad snaps lately? Do we need to stop using the shotgun? We've turned one backup quarterback into a receiver....do we have any others to try and sub in, or are they still raw?

Unless you've got a magic wand, there ain't no easy fix. Plenty of blame to go around, and I'm sure the coach has big enough shoulders to take it, but he can't do everything for them. They've got to step up and make plays.

With that said, I am hoping that somehow they start to getting their $%^& together and have a better record than last year. It is disheartening for the 'Neck faithful. :(

Nielson will have at least 1 or 2 more seasons, but this was a winnable game that got away. I do not know what true issue is but a lot of times if you are losing second half its because of poor conditioning.

Brian Ward enters his third year as the defensive coordinator for the Leathernecks. During his two years in charge of the defense, Western continues to solidify itself as one of the top units in the Missouri Valley Football Conference and among all Division I programs.

In two short years, the defensive unit went from ranking 100th in total defense to seventh last year, and from 49th in pass defense in 2011 to third-best in the country. The Leathernecks also moved from 110th in passing efficiency defense two years ago to 14th last season. WIU also made a significant improvement in sacks (116th to 55th) and tackles for a loss (105th to 73rd).

Ward coached three All-MVFC players on defense, led by Second Team defensive back Martinez Davis (second straight year at Second Team). Junior linebacker Kevin Kintzel (Honorable Mention) set a program record scoring three defensive touchdowns last year. Senior defensive lineman Ryan Demming earned Honorable Mention honors for the second straight year

Play to win , The coaches have the secondary on their Bio being the strengths of the defense but Coach Neilson said " that The strengths of the defense is the linebackers." This is why they should be fired, they don't have a clue of what's going on. they are backward like the scoreboard

Tyler Yelk enters his second year with coach Bob Nielson and the Leatherneck Football program. Yelk, an All-American defensive back, coaches the defensive backs and serves as the special teams coordinator.

During his first year, the secondary proved to be one of the team’s strengths led by Second Team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference selection Martinez Davis. The same four players started every game at cornerback and both safety positions.

The top five secondary personnel accounted for nine interceptions (including two that were ran back for a touchdown), 13 tackles for a loss, 17 pass break-ups, three fumble recoveries, and three forced fumbles. Western finished the year ranked third nationally in passing defense, seventh in total defense and 14th in pass efficiency defense.

Tebow No comparison! more like slowbow. I do agree Coach Nielson need to go back to D2. We are definitely getting out coached. Why is Davis not a captain? but nothing surprises me with this coaching staff, they suck.
