Sunday was a great day for Coastal Carolina.

First, Dustin Johnson wins the US Open.

Then later on, Coastal Carolina sends #1 Florida to the loser's bracket by beating Florida 2-1 in their first game in the College World Series.

CCU is getting a lot of mileage out of that $20 monkey mascot they picked up at a bus stop earlier this year. If they beat Arizona this week, I have a feeling it will become a permanent fixture on the bus and bench for a lot of their teams. Speaking of mascots, here is something else I ran across on youtube. Nice bit of marketing on their part to bring in mascots from area high schools and local businesses for a little half-time action. Their basketball arena is not fancy but they make the most of it.

A stuffed monkey named Rafiki serves as Coastal Carolina's good-luck charm.

The Chanticleers adopted an inflatable shark in the middle of the CWS to join Rafiki. The shark was among the dozens of beach balls and other inflatables that fans in the left-field bleachers dumped onto the field Thursday. The grounds crew piled up the debris in the left-field bullpen, where a Coastal Carolina player discovered the shark.

At Saturday's game, the shark was wearing a jacket and a Coastal cap.

Coastal Carolina wins College World Series over Arizona.

Coastal Caroline led 4-3 in the bottom of the 9th.
Arizona had the tying run at 3rd and the winning run at 2nd with two outs.
The batter had a 3-2 count.
