IIRC, we have lowered our standard on this go-round. Wasn't masters required before? Good move which more than likely means they have a person or two in mind for the job.

I always thought the masters requirement for a coaching job was pretty pointless.
Either you can coach or you can't.

That should help your boy O'Boyle.

And I'm sure there's plenty of good coaches out there that played, got a bachelors degree, then went right into coaching at a lower assistant level and moved up the ranks without really having the opportunity (or needing) to get a Masters. If they have one...great...but I don't think it should be a requirement to coach a football team.

LocalYokelFan wrote:Leatherneck57 -- I love your enthusiasm, and as I've stated before, my support remains steadfast. The cynical side of me, though, says "WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN!?" The West Side has been crumbling for years, the University's endowment has been a joke for even longer, the Leatherneck Club has been a bottom dweller in comparison with our peer institutions for year, and yet now that we lose the best coach and best AD we've had in a long time, now's the time to get involved!? Better late than never I suppose, but I just hope the boosters and football alumni you know have a real game plan with real $$$ to get done what you're saying. Looking forward to your updates, with milestones and $$$!!!
If I may, I believe Leatherneck57 stated in one of his earlier posts that Van Alstine had alienated most of the football alumni, thus they pulled their support. It was also said that Matt is doing a good job, and most are reigniting the passion they had for Leatherneck football.
So, if I am reading your post right, the guy you considered the "best AD we've had in a long time" is the same guy whose actions made the football alums turn their backs on the program. I.e., "one man's trash is another man's treasure".
Just how I'm reading the two positions - Leatherneck57 can correct me if I am wrong.

Ahhhh. My mistake. There were mitigating circumstances with Bell, though - his wife being at SIU and then his position opening up down there was a no-brainer.

Yea, if he'd had the connections to WIU instead of SIU, I think he could have been the best AD in a long time. He's a good guy who knows his stuff and likely would have continued to do a great job. Can't blame him for essentially going "home".
Unrelated to the AD talk, but re: search committee:

If Taylor's name was released lets see the other names on the committee. Do you seriously think Taylor will be involved?
