Sean started in 4 games as a redshirt freshman, taking over for the injured Trenton Norvell, and throwing for an average of 115.9 yards per game, with 6 TDs and 6 INTs. Last season, he win the starting job outright and threw for a Leatherneck Football season record of 264.9 yards per game. He also had 20 TDs and 12 INTs, for a QB rating of 130.5 on the season. He also ran for 207 yards and 5 TDs last season.

Gene Benhart was the passing leader in 1989 with 1297 yards (117.9 per game) and 7 TDs. He was drafted in the 12th round of the 1990 NFL Draft by the Colts, but did not see any playing time.

Willie Davis was the team's passing leader in 1990 with 1179 yards (107.2 per game) and 6 TDs.

Ashlee Frazier was an All-Conference Honorable Mention at Return Specialist in 1999. As a receiver, he's 10th for yards per reception in a season with 20.5 in '99. He has the 3rd (tied) longest punt return with an 86-yard TD return against MS Valley State in '99. He has the most punt returns in a season with 45 in 2000, and that same year had the 3rd most punt return yards with 454. He has the most career punt returns in Leatherneck history as well with 59.

Vinceson Campbell was a DB who was named to the All-Conference Second Team in 2003.

Terrence Hall was a WR named to the conference All-Newcomer Team in 2002 and All-Conference Honorable mention in 2003. He led the team in receptions in 2003 with 46 for 701 yards and 4 TDs.

J.R. Zwierzynski was a TE named to the conference All-Newcomer Team in 2006.

Josh Gabelmann was an All-Conference Honorable Mention FB in 2009 and 2010. In 2010 he was also on the Academic All-Conference Honorable Mention list and received the President's Academic Excellence Award in 2011.

Tim Franken was on the conference All-Newcomer Team in 2008 at DB. That season as a Freshman, he led the team in interceptions with 4.

Donald Harris was the team's interceptions leader in 1992 with 4 INTs returned for 19 yards total.

Walter Mitchell is at #5 on the list of yards per reception in a season with a 23.1 ypc average in 2000.

Steve LaFalce was an All-Conference Honorable Mention QB in 2005, was Academic All-Conference Second Team in 2004 and First Team in '05 and '06, and was awarded the President's Academic Excellence Award and named to the FCS ADA Academic All-Star Team in '06 as well. LaFalce was the team's passing leader in 2004, 2005, and 2006 and was faced with the unenviable task of following up successful QB Russ Michna. For season records, he is #2 (tied) for rushing TDs by a QB (6 in 2005) and #5 (tied) with 4 in 2006. His 12 career rushing TDs is #2 for a Leatherneck QB. He holds the record for consecutive completions to start a game, with 10 straight against Northern Colorado in 2005 and the longest completion with a 98-yard TD pass at Illinois State that same year. He also has the 9th (tied) longest pass with an 83-yard TD against IL State in '04. He has the #7 season for passing yards (2,586), #5 (tied) for yards per attempt with 8.7, #6 in yards per game with 235.1 average, #6 for completions (201), #2 pass efficiency rating (156.0), #1 in completion percentage (.674) and #10 (tied) in passing TDs (19)...all in 2005. In 2006 he had the 4th best season for completion percentage with .631. Over the course of his career, he is #4 in passing yards (6,512), #5 in yards per attempt (7.9), #3 in completions (582), #2 in completion percentage (.616), and #5 in passing TDs (42).

Tyrin was a 4-year member of the Liberty Flames football program, redshirting his first year and playing three years. He earned a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from Liberty University and is pursuing a master's degree in Executive Leadership at Western. In his time at Liberty, he played in 36 games, starting 22 of them, with 103 total tackles, 7 interceptions, 12 pass break-ups, 2 forced fumbles and 2 fumble recoveries.

Mark Bloom was a Second Team All-Conference QB in 1983. He has the 6th longest completion in school history with an 89-yard pass against UNI that same year, and is 9th on the list for attempts in a year with 303. He was the team's passing leader in '83 and '84 with 1,618 yards and 9 TDs and then 1,396 yards and 11 TDs respectively.

Dave Emond was a placekicker who was the team's scoring leader in 1986 with 19 PATs and 7 FGs for 40 points. He ranks 9th (tied) for career FGs with 11 and is 10th for kick scoring in a career with 77 points.

Steve Turzynski was a Second Team All-Conference DB in 1991 and was the team's interception leader that year with 2 returned for 26 yards.

Jeff Hecklinski was named to the conference All-Newcomer team and All-Conference Honorable Mention in 1995, Second Team in 1996, and First Team in 1997, as well as Second Team Academic All-Conference in 1997. He's got the 8th longest completion in school history with an 84-yard TD against Cal Poly-SLO in 1996. For season records, he's got the 9th most completions with 184 in 1997 and the 3rd and 5th best completion percentages with .633 in 1996 and .617 in 1997. For his career, he's 6th in yardage (5,980), 8th in yards per attempt (7.5), 6th in yards per game (166.1), 5th in completions (486), 5th in attempts (800), and 3rd in percentage (.608). He went on to play for a season for the Albany Firebirds of the Arena League before heading into coaching, where he's been pretty successful as a positional offensive coach at Arizona, Ball State, San Diego State, and Michigan. He is currently the offensive coordinator at Indiana State.

Taylor Rowan was a First Team All-Conference kicker in 2007 and 2008. He also received CSN First Team and Sports Network Honorable Mention in 2007. Taylor is 4th on the career scoring list with 283 total points. He holds the FCS record for consecutive extra points made with 129 straight between 2005 and 2008. He's tied (with Mike Scifres..."The Kick") for the longest FG with a 56-yarder against Southern Illinois in 2007. He also has FGs from 55 yards, 54 yards, 3 from 53 yards, 1 from 52 yards, and 2 from 50 yards. He's tied for 3rd for XPs in a game with 10 against Iowa Wesleyan in 2005 and three times had 9 XPs in a game. His season records include 2nd in FGs (19 in '07), #1 and #2 (tied) for 50+ yard FGs (6 in '07 and 2 in '06), 4th, 6th and 7th for XPs in a season (47 in 2005, 43 in 2005, 42 in 2006), and 5th and 8th in kick scoring (85 pts in '07 and 73 pts in 2008). In his career, he's 3rd for FGs (41), 1st for 50+ yard FGs (9), 2nd for XPs (141), and 2nd in kick scoring (283 points). He went on to play for 6 seasons in the Arena League and 1 season in the United Football League.

Myers Hendrickson was a WR who was a Macomb native and named a Academic All-Conference Honorable Mention in 2009, Second Team in 2010, and First Team w/ President's Academic Excellence Award in 2011. He is the son of former Leatherneck Head Coach Mark Hendrickson and is currently the offensive coordinator at Coe College.

There's two QBs on this list that would easily fall into the "Greatest Leatherneck QBs of All Time" category. The first is Paul Singer. It'd be difficult to go through all of the records that Singer holds, so I'll hit on the big ones:

In 1987, Singer was Second Team All-Conference and AP Honorable Mention
In 1988, he was First Team All-Conference, Conference "Player of the Year", Walter Camp First Team, AP Third Team, FB Gazette Honorable Mention, Sports Network Honorable Mention, as well as an NCAA Postgraduate Scholar and a CoSIDA First Team Academic All-American.
He was drafted in the 8th Round of the 1989 NFL Draft by Atlanta, but would end up spending four seasons with the World League of Football (later renamed NFL Europe), and was inducted into the Leatherneck Hall of Fame in 2005.

Maurice Smith was a DB named to the All-Conference Second Team and Sports Network Second Team in 1987. He led the team in Interceptions in '86 and '87 as well as leading on punt return duties in '87.

Joe Allen was an All-Conference Honorable Mention DB in 1990. He's tied for 3rd for defensive scoring in a season with 2 TDs in 1990.

The other QB on this list who falls into the category of GOATs is Russ Michna. Like Singer, Michna shows up too often in the record books to list everything, so here's the highlights:

• TDs in a game - 2nd (tied and twice accomplished, 5)
• Yards in a season - 2nd (3,160) and 4th (3,037)

Now, I do also want to get to Michna's career records, but I wanted to mention beforehand that Michna only really played for 2 years. He did technically play in 8 games as a Sophomore, but because Sam Clemons was the starting QB at the time, Michna only threw 24 times for 136 yards and 0 TDs, so the majority of these numbers come almost entirely from his Junior and Senior years.

In 2002, he was named First Team All-Conference, Conference Offensive Player of the Year, as well as First Team Academic All-Conference, received the President's Academic Excellence Award, and made the FCS ADA Academic All-Star Team.
In 2003, he was named First Team All-Conference, Conference Offensive Player of the Year, and College Sporting News First Team, as well as First Team Academic All-Conference, received the President's Academic Excellence Award, and made the FCS ADA Academic All-Star Team.
Michna is one of only 4 Leathernecks to ever win two "Conference ... Player of the Year" awards and was inducted into the Leatherneck Hall of Fame in 2013. Charles Chestnut was the team's receiving yards leader in 2012 with 413 yards and in receptions with 39.

Looks like this is a popular number for kickers and punters...

John Pecaro was a punter who has the 3rd (tied) best punting average for a season with 43.1 yards per punt in 1966. His career average is 38.9 yards per punt, which ties him for 7th on that list.

Peter Muller is 10th on the list for best punting average in a season with 41.2 in 1972 and is 5th (tied) on the career list for the same stat with a career average of 39.1 yards per punt. He was named to the Universal Sports First Team in 1972 and was inducted into the Leatherneck Hall of Fame in 1986.

Steve Justice has the 10th best punting average for a career with a 37.2 average.

Rick Fahnestock has the 2nd longest completion in Leatherneck history with a 96-yard TD pass against UNI in 1986.

Keith Jones was the team's placekicker from 1994-1997. In his career, he had 3 50+ yard FGs (a 52-yarder and two 50's). He's at #4 and #6 on the list of FGs in a season with 15 in '96 and 13 in '97. He's tied for #2 for 50+ yard FGs in a season with 2 in '96 and is #3 for XPs in a season with 48 in '97. In his career, he's #2 for FGs with 42, #3 for XPs with 141 and #3 for kick scoring with 267 points. Jones was named Second Team All-Conference in 1994 and 1997. He was also on the conference All-Newcomer team in 1994 and a FB Gazette Honorable Mention in 1996 and 1997.

Justin Langan was the team's kicking leader from 2001-2004. He was All-Conference Second Team in 2002 and Honorable Mention in 2003 and 2004. He was also Academic All-Conference First Team in 2002, 2003, and 2004, receiving the President's Academic Excellence Award and being named a CoSIDA Academic All-American (First Team) in '04. In 2002, he was also named to the AP Third Team, FB Gazette First Team, FB Gazette Specialist of the Year and Sports Network First Team, and in '04 was AFCA First Team.
Langan holds the school record for consecutive FGs with 12 (and is #3 on the list with 10 in a row another time). He's #2 and #4 on the list for consecutive XPs made with 72, and then 38. He is tied for the record of most FGs in a game with 5 at Montana in 2003, and is listed twice at #3 with 4 FGs in a game. In his career, he had 4 50+ yard FGs (2 53-yarders, a 51, and a 50), and he has the school and conference record for most XPs in a game with 14 against Cheney (although it's great that he hit all those, that really speaks more to how outmatched Cheney was...we beat them by 91 points). In a season, he is #1, #4 (tied) and #8 (tied) for most FGs with 20, 15, and 11 in consecutive season from '02-'04. He also is #1 and #2 for most XPs in a season with 56 and 53 in '02 and '03. His career numbers put him at #1 in FGs with 53, #1 in XPs with 174, and (obviously) #1 in kick scoring with 335 total points. That number also makes him the Leathernecks career points leader (3 points ahead of #2 RB Travis Glasford).
Dr. Langan was inducted into the Leatherneck Hall of Fame in 2015 for his contributions on both the football field and the soccer pitch, and currently an orthopaedic surgeon in Greenville, SC.

Patrick Stoudamire was named to the conference All-Newcomer team in 2006 at DB and then All-Conference First Team in '07, '08, and '09 (one of only three Leathernecks to be named to the First Team three times). He also was a Sports Network Honorable Mention in '07 and AP Second Team and Sports Network Second Team in '09. Stoudamire has the second longest fumble return in Western history, with an 88-yard TD against Missouri State in '09. He is tied for the record for passes broken up in a season with 16 in '09 and is #3 on the career list for that stat with a total of 35. Following his Leatherneck career, Patrick was signed by the 49ers and then later the Patriots, but didn't see any action on the field. He played for a season for the Las Vegas Locomotives of the United Football League and for four seasons in the Arena Football League with the Iowa Barnstormers, Spokane Shock, and Portland Thunder.

Devon Butler was tied with Kevin Kintzel as the team's tackle leaders in 2013 with 74 total tackles.

Trenton Norvell began his collegiate football career at Cincinnati, redshirting in 2012. He transferred to Western and started as a redshirt freshman in 2013 as well as his sophomore and junior years, 2014 and 2015. Despite losing the starting QB job his senior year, to his credit, Norvell decided to stick it out at Western, contributing during the SDSU game that season. Because of his performance over his first 3 years, Norvell is near the top of many WIU QB records:

• Has the #5 spot for yards in a season with 2,891 yards in 2014
• #3 for most TDs in a season with 24 in 2014
• 7,187 career passing yards is #2 in WIU history and 15th in MVFC history
• 216.0 passing yards per game career average is #1 in WIU history (the only time a WIU QB has passed for 200+ ypg his entire career)
• 582 completions and 1,061 attempts are both #2 in WIU history
• 53 passing TDs is #2 in WIU history

Norvell was named to the All-Newcomer team in 2013 and was an All-Conference Honorable Mention in 2014 and 2015. He spent this last spring working with The Spring League (https://www.thespringleague.com/), a development league for free agents to improve their skills and get noticed by professional teams.

Ken Huddleston was the team's receptions leader and receiving yards in 1984 and '85. His 1,194 career receiving yards puts him at #21 on that list. He had a 56.9 receiving yards per game average is 11th in school history, and he was named Second Team All-Conference in both 1984 and '85.

Damon Stewart was a DB who was on the conference All-Academic Honorable Mention List and received the President's Academic Excellence Award in 1998.

He was also Academic All-Conference Second Team in '08, First Team in '09 and '10, as well as receiving the President's Academic Excellence Award in 2010. Glazier was named a CoSIDA Academic All-American First Team in 2010, and was named to the FCS ADA Academic All-Star Team in 2008 and 2010. He was named a College Sporting News Honorable Mention in 2009 and Sports Network First Team, Associated Press First Team, and Walter Camp Association Team in 2010.

Eric is from St. Louis, MO. He played in 10 games last year, racking up 27 tackles, 2 passes defended, 1 forced fumble, 1 interception, and 1 sack.

Don Stewart is tied for having the 2nd longest interception return in WIU history with a 95-yard TD return against Youngstown State in 1984. He's also 6th (tied) on the list for interceptions in a season with 6 that same year.

Sam Elmore has the 8th longest interception return in WIU history with a 76-yard return against Youngstown State in 1998. He was named to the conference All-Newcomer team that same year.

Marco Thomas was an All-Confernece Honorable Mention WR in 2005 and First Team in 2006. He has the longest reception in Leatherneck history with a 98-yard TD catch against Illinois State in 2005. Marco is tied for 10th with the most receptions in a season (58 in 2006) and tied for 5th in 100+ yard receiving games in a season (4 in 2005). In his career, he's 9th in receptions with 109, 9th in yards with 1,661, and 5th (tied) in 100+ yard games with 6. Following his Leatherneck career, Marco spent time on the offseason or practice squads of the NY Giants, NY Jets, Oakland Raiders, and San Diego Chargers, before heading northward to play for a couple of years for the Montreal Alouettes of the CFL. Following that, he spent 6 fairly successful seasons in the Arena League, being named First Team All-Arena and WR of the Year in 2014 and Second Team All-Arena in 2015.

Steve Mikez has the 10th best yards per game average over a career in Western history with 160.8 yards per game. He is 8th on the career TD list with 32 TD passes and 7th in career yards per attempt average (7.6 yards). He was inducted into the Leatherneck Hall of Fame in 1994.

Rob St. Sauver was the conference Offensive Player of the Year, a Sports Network Honorable Mention, and FB Gazette Honorable Mention in 1994. He also received a Sports Network Honorable Mention in 1995. He has the 14th (tied) best yardage game with 363 against Central Florida in 1993 and the 3rd (tied) longest completion with a 92 yard TD pass against Indiana State in 1994. Rob's 1994 season ranks as 10th for yardage (2,361), 10th in yards per attempt (7.9), 6th in pass efficiency rating (141.8) and 6th (tied) for TDs (21). Despite only starting for 2 years, his career numbers put him at #8 in yards (4,125), #4 in yards per game (187.5), 8th in completions (312), and 10th in completion percentage (.520).

Mark Zanders was an All-Conference Honorable Mention QB and Academic All-Conference Honorable Mention in 1998. He has the 9th (tied) longest completion with an 83-yard TD against Georgia Southern in 1998. He was 9th in yards per attempt in 1999 (8.1) and 9th in pass efficiency rating for a season with 136.2 that same year. His career stats list him at 10th for yardage (3,863), 9th in yards per attempt (7.3), 11th in yards per game (154.5), 9th in completions (284), 9th in percentage (.534), and 10th in TDs (28).

William Peterson was an AP Third Team and FB Gazette Honorable Mention in 2000 at DB. He was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2001 NFL Draft by the NY Giants. He played for a total of 10 seasons for the Giants, Eagles, Bills (practice squad only), Jaguars, Lions, and 49ers. His full name being William James Peterson, Jr., he dropped the "Peterson, Jr." after signing with the Eagles, going by William James after that point.

Sam has the #1 passing yardage performance in a game in Western history with 472 yards against Indiana State in 2001. He also has the #7 (395) and #13 (365) spots. He also has the school record for consecutive completions with 17 and is tied at #2 for the most TDs in a game with 5.

He has the 3rd longest fumble return with a 52-yard TD return against Western Kentucky in 2003 (the regular season game, not the playoff game) and the 7th longest fumble return with a 29-yard return against LSU in 2003. He is tied for #2 in blocked kicks in a season with 3 in '02 and tied for #2 in the same stat in a career with 4 total.

Robert Hodges was a Second Team All-Conference DB in 2007.

Dre Gibbs was an All-Conference FB...First Team in 2008 and Second Team in 2009. Also in 2008 he was named to the Sports Network Third Team. Gibbs ranks #13 on the list of best rushing seasons with 1,110 in 2009. In his career, he has 8 100+ yard games (tied for #7 on that list).

Mike Stieren was an All-Conference Second Team D-Lineman in 2010.

Ryan Demming was an All-Conference Honorable Mention D-Lineman in 2012 and 2013.
