The Video Board was not showing the Live Action today. Must have been a technical problem.leatherneckcountry wrote: Sat Oct 18, 2025 7:32 pm Was replay not working there were a couple plays that I couldn’t believe weren’t looked
Myers found ways to lose games that we should have won. Myers was unequivocally the worst hire in school history. I mean he was really bad.Leatherneckgrad13 wrote: Sat Oct 18, 2025 7:21 pm The one thing I know right now is Myers was fired after year 2 playing a lot tougher schedule than we are now, and I also feel that Davis benefited last year with the switch to the OVC and a lot of the work done by the previous staff. If Myers only got 2 years to right the ship (which in my opinion we were better off with him as coach) how long is Davis gonna get?
Yeah...it's like, barring us pulling something crazy that will never happen like hiring James Franklin (Penn State's recently-fired coach) or pulling Saban out of retirement...do we think that any coach is going to be able to do better given our current situation? We don't have much (if any) money for NIL/paying players. Our coaches have to go on social media to fundraise to be able to afford things that other schools are able to just cover with their budgets. We can't afford the badly-needed remodel/rebuild of the west side stands. We definitely can't afford to build a football-specific office/training building or indoor practice facility like you see at places like Illinois State.sealhall74 wrote: Sun Oct 19, 2025 12:51 pm Recruiting has to be a nightmare job for us and lot of other similar programs right now. Portal aside, my gut is telling me that some kids simply want to compete against the best (e.g. MVFC) even though they are not good enough to actually play for the better teams there. Bigger stages, more publicity, etc. fueling a "Rudy-like" fire in their belly to prove they belong. Probably applies to coaches as well. On the stat sheet, we do seem to be much improved from a couple of years back. Some of that is no doubt because of playing against lower level competition. So are we truly more talented, this Neck fan looking at things from the 36K foot level view is not convinced. Need to be in the locker room day in and day out to know for sure.
Interesting on the "clean up" aspect. I'm not happy with the way this season has gone, but am still willing to give it another year. IF we can keep the freshmen we've been playing (over 20, according to the TV announcers), they will have gained valuable experience. But, as has been repeated ad nauseum, the transfer portal has played holy hell with football teams as far as stability. I'm not in a position to talk big donations, but would definitely look to step that up as a factor in retention. We've been so close, yet so far.......NewNeck wrote: Sun Oct 19, 2025 2:03 pm Was not able to watch the game yesterday but from the boxscore it looks like we dominated them. Passing, rushing, TOP, 1st downs, 3rd downs all in our favor pretty heavily. https://www.espn.com/college-football/m ... /401767166
I thought this would be an easy win for WIU. I also thought everyone was on the Davis bandwagon after last season's big improvement but times can change quickly especially when you're sitting at 1 win in late October with 3 one score league losses.
I was told he had a lot to clean up upon his hiring when it came to roster, academics and fundraising...time will tell.
