The General Assembly left Springfield tonight (Dec 1) without agreeing on a state budget.
This inaction will impact anyone who relies on state government: the State Agencies, Social Service Agencies, State Universities, etc. A temporary spending plan is set to expire Jan. 1, meaning the state will no longer be able to cut checks for universities and social service providers who care for the state's elderly.

Rauner obviously did not take good notes during the most recent presidential election. Yes, he too has promised to cut taxes and yes, he has promised to bring back jobs. His failure now is simply one of tone and rhetoric. He really needs to model his behavior after the newly elected populist conman Trump and there is no doubt in my mind that about half the Illinois voters would buy into his plan (whatever it may be) lock, stock, and barrel. Who needs term limits when you can effectively sway the voters into believing that the best hope for the future begins by simply "draining the swamp". Rauner has a twitter account but there is nothing there but ultra-lame tweets. Where are the 3am tweets that fall into the "sex, lies, and videotape" genre? Rauner has some real work ahead to get anything done in the State of Illinois.

Cash Infusion for WIU Still Falls Short of Full State Funding.

The General Assembly is not due back in Springfield until January 9.
The actions of the past week are raising the suspicion that Rauner and Madigan are willing to let the state burn to the ground if the winner gets his way. The loser in that scenario will be the state of Illinois.
