Necks2003 wrote: Mon Nov 15, 2021 4:32 pm The fact they have not announced an opening for the position, and that a team has been put together to do a national search is already scary to me. Why wait to get the ball moving and try to be ahead of recruiting and putting coaching staff's together.

Where did you see this - about the national search, I mean?

There is typically a national search done for these head coaching positions....have to make sure you interview certain number of qualified candidates and not sure how the Rooney rule impact NCAA requirements.

Who is on the team that is doing this? I understand you have to publicize the search, but who is on the "committee" that decides who to hire?

I'd say Athletic Director and President. Beyond that I'm not sure. I think when we hired Fisher, then Senior LB Brett Taylor was on the committee, although idk if we have a returning player at that leadership level currently.

So, it's not like the group who worked on the Fisher hire, then? I figured the AD and President would be involved, the post just made it sound like there were more people on the hiring "team". Thanks for the clarification.

I have no idea who is or isn't...that was just my best guess.

Been a long time since I’ve posted, but I always read everything on here. In my opinion they need a coach with head coaching experience OR a good pedigree as an offensive or defensive coordinator. To turn this around the right way we need someone that knows what needs to be done, I don’t think we can afford to have someone learning on the job again. We shouldn’t sell ourselves short on who we can bring in. Coaches can win at Western, we’ve seen it over and over again.

the Jeter hire was excellent, even before the Nebraska win. That gives me some hope with figuring this one out, I would hope football alumni and others that understand what this job is about are involved in the process.

Wouldn’t hurt at all if we could get an upgrade with the stadium on the west side or north endzone  8-)

Here's a link to an article in the Springfield MO paper that lists salaries on Valley Coaches.  Of course Jared was last.  We need to be a little more competitive this time around to attract the Coach that we all want.

Best case scenario in my opinion.  Hire an older guy who had storied success at whatever level and still has a burning desire to make it all happen again.  If this sounds a little Lombardi-like, well, it is.  The key for him was that he had a lot of control over the whole show.  He turned around the culture in DC in only one year and the success lasted for 3 decades.  You could not get a ticket to a game unless you knew someone very well or did not mind paying extra for the ticket.  I managed to see one game in my 30+ years living there - NFC Championhip game against the Vikes in 1987.  Had to pay $130 bucks for that ticket but worth every penny even though it was an endzone upper level seat in a baseball stadium and I could not even see the endzone under my seat.  The stadium literally rocked that day.  Every game, Jack Kent Cooke would host the rich and famous Washington elites in his private box suite at RFK.  Redskin games were always THE event in town.  The only one that might have come close to it once a year was the White House Correspondents Assn Dinner in the spring.

ITS ALL ABOUT THE CULTURE.  WE NEED TO UPGRADE IT TO HAVE ANY CHANCE AT SUCCESS.  PLEASE DO NOT HIRE A HEAD COACH WHO THINKS IT IS FINE AND DANDY FOR TAILGATERS TO BE THROWING BEANBAGS IN Q LOT AFTER KICKOFF.

According to the official appropriated funds budget from last fiscal year he made $155k in FY20 and $170k in FY21.

It'd still be at the bottom of the conference, but not far from what SIU pays ($175k). If we can find a way to pay $200k, that'd be great.

For anyone who wants to compare our numbers to the basketball coaches on the list, Jeter was listed at $200k for the 2020-21 school year and Gravina is at $150k.
