Symbolic or not, it's not sitting well with me. Obviously, I'm not a liberal; and this just seems to argue the point that universities aren't a place of learning anymore, but a breeding ground for the liberal mindset.

First thing I wondered when I read about the Sanctuary Campus idea was how many students have DACA status? Is this a solution looking for a problem? I am sure the faculty member feels passionately about this and sees it as a moral issue, but it does seem rather tone deaf and reinforces the notion of the out of touch academic.

UIS professors to go on strike starting Tuesday.

University of Illinois Springfield professors will be on the picket line Tuesday morning after the union that represents them called for a strike on Monday night.

The strike comes as UIS’ second semester winds to a close. The final week of classes is this week, and final exams are next week. Graduation is May 13.

The union’s decision comes after a seven-hour bargaining session on Monday.

What a group of arrogant and self centered creatures. Maybe Rauner is right. Lets start closing some schools and get rid of duplications and weak programs. Why are they striking? Their timing is unbelievable. Time for some of them to get real jobs.

I'm pretty much on board with reorganization of state universities. Do we really need all of the schools? 2 SIU,Northern, Illinois State, Eastern, Western, UIS and a host of others in NE Illinois area. Transportation is now easier for travel to areas outside the immediate region, online work is becoming the norm, and community colleges are fast becoming the best financial move for the first two years for many families. Let alone all of the duplication of programs. There's no reason for Chicago State to continue to suck at the tax teet when they can only get 80 in their freshman class.

Business and industry have changed with the times, and maybe now education needs to change with the times.

EIU is looking at eliminating 4 sports, due to declining enrollment. Eastern currently offers 21 sports which I guess is the most of any university in their conference.

Not only NO, but HELL NO! If WIU becomes a sanctuary campus, they will never see another dollar from me as long as I live.

Liberals don't seem to understand democracy. If you don't like a law, you work to get it changed. You DON'T actively disobey it.

The fact that the WIU administration would even consider looking into this is sick.

If WIU intentionally breaks federal law, then they should no longer receive any money from the federal government!

According to the UIS HR website, the faculty have been in negotiations on their first agreement since October, 2015.

The University’s goal is a fair and appropriate contract, taking into account current budget uncertainties and the significant cuts in state funding to public universities over the last several years.

So, in essence, the faculty is bargaining as if it is 2012, when the reality is that things have changed.

My guess on the whole safe haven campus subject is that it's a desperate grab for attracting more students with declining enrollment. It would not sit well with me and might have to move my family if it is approved ( already close to doing that, anyway.)
