"Regarded as one of the most influential administrators in league history, Smiley's name adorns The Summit League's all-sports women's award. In a career that spanned three decades, Smiley spent nine years as Western Illinois' Women's Director of Athletics and seven years as the school's Director of Athletics. During her tenure, Smiley earned the 2000 National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA)/Continental Airlines Athletic Director of the Year award."
