Creating a whole new conference should absolutely be on the table.  Not like we are going to be hurt that much by waiting for the automatic bid to tournament to kick in.  What is the waiting period? 5 years?  How long have we been waiting to get in?

Serious question, though:  Since moving to D1, how many non-footbal teams have received the conference bid to the NCAA championship.  Womens BB 3 or 4 years back.  Aside from that, I cant think of a single 1.

Men's soccer played in the NCAA Tournament in: 2004, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2011, and 2012. Now, they were 0-6 in all those games, but they did make the tournament.
Women's basketball in '94-'95.
Softball in '92, '00, '01, '08.
Looks like that's it for the team sports though.

One appearance in the last decade (WBB).  We cannot compete with the Dakotas, Denver, ... unless the stars are aligned just right.

Not rocket science.  Look at Athletic staffing at SDSU and compare it with ours.  They have double the staff, only 10% GAs compared to our 40%.

The waiting period is 8 years (20.02.5.4). It isn't financially viable because of how much revenue comes from NCAA distributions. Plus, you have to trust that every other school will wait out those 8 years and not bail to a conference with an autobid the moment they get an invite, which is almost impossible, especially as schools turn over administrations.

I've been seeing a rumor a couple of different places that WIU wants to join the OVC, but that WIU doesn't want to pay an entrance fee, and that the OVC and WIU can't come to an agreement on that. Anybody on here know anything about that?

Seems stupid if true. OVC needs another football school and they are collecting several million dollars combined in exit fees already. How much money do they really need?

I think it’s a dead issue at the moment.  That does not mean “forever” just not now.   ;)
