UIC-QC is for graduate level nursing only. It’s not viewed as a competitor at all. It’s been in the QC for decades and is very small.

The quote from U of I said it all. They want to partner with other institutions, not compete. I can see WIU and UIUC and UIC joining forces for cooperative engineering and health sciences programs. That would be healthy and wise.

At least the Mayor recognized that the Riverfront Campus isn’t hers to give away, and I do not see IBHE allowing anyone else to build a new physical presence in the QC.

WIU-QC isn’t going anywhere.

Something tells me the rhetoric involving the QC Campus is probably going to die down a bit now...


That isn't to say that the QC campus doesn't have problems that need to be addressed, but kicking WIU out of Moline and bringing in another school is not the best way to go about doing that. I'm sure there were other issues to take into consideration, but I'd bet that more than a few voters were turned off by Mayor Acri's comments about the WIU-QC Campus. Rayapati won 61% of the vote.

Several of the mayor’s enablers on the city council got swept out, too.

The reporter didn’t have answers to some questions with easily obtained answers. But I think they’re on to something with discussing sharing classroom and office space if another state institution wants to offer joint or collaborative degree programs with us. Similar to the Lake County Center, and building upon the QC Grad Center model, but with Western taking even more of a lead.

A multi-university "hub" learning center like the Lake County Univerity Center is not a bad idea. Sioux Falls in South Dakota has one also. Lake County allows private schools to share the space. SD sticks to just the publics which I think makes more sense for something tax payers are funding. But they are smart and have a single umbrella system for higher public education. The state of Illinois is not quite that smart. Someone needs to do what need to be done to put a single umbrella system referendum on a future ballot. Let the people decide how to deal with public education.

Western pulled out of the Lake County Center 3 or so years ago. It was determined the annual dues, somewhere near 40K, weren’t worth it anymore.
