Yeah, we lost, but I was pleasantly surprised with how well we fared with them overall. Still need a ground game. I did hear the announcer say that the Leathernecks were using some guys that were listed as 3 deep - was this just to keep more of the starters healthy, or do we have a lot of injuries already?

So a major step forward in my opinion! You can bet they will continue to really work on the running game. If we play with this intensity and ability we will be an above 500 ball club or better. ;) jc

Connor Sampson had 30 completions on 43 attempts for 367 passing yards. He threw 1 interception.

Western had 70 rushing yards on 24 attempts.
In the 2021 Spring season, our game high for passing yards was 355 and 2 TDs against UNI. Against Ball State, 367 passing yards and 2 TDs.

In the spring, game high for rushing yards was 87 against SDSU. The 70 against Ball State was more than we had in any of the 5 other games this spring.

A few more Wildcat plays and we top 100 yds for sure.
Embrace the pace of the race.

I am very happy with last nights performance. The first game of the season, against the MAC Champs and that’s the best we’ve looked under Elliot. The Oline seems to have improved, and our defense is great.

Hopefully Tate is good to go next week. You could tell something was wrong after contact on the return and he tried to take off. Once he bounced off the tackle, I thought he was going to bust it outside for a big one, but didn't have that next gear. He seemed to gingerly come off the field and we didn't see him again. He was getting some attention on the sideline at one point and was still in gear walking around during and after the game.

Wanza looked good making a few cuts and finding the whole. Choquette had a great run for 23 that could have been 35+, but toe was just on the line during a nice spin move. Would have liked to see a few more chances for Walker, but get the game flow was leading us more towards the passing game and it was there.

Not sure if Walker was banged up, but went down awkwardly after a catch for 10 during our first TD drive. He came out and don't remember him coming back in.

Think all three of these guys are capable backs and should put up some yards for us going forward.

Possibly a stupid question, but here goes. Have we always had "slotbacks", or is this a change this year? At least one of the guys I thought was listed as a running back last year is listed as a slotback this year. I understand what a slotback is, but just can't remember the term being used prior to this year.
