After wishing Coach Elliott the best in his future endeavors, it's time to look towards the future. I know this was discussed somewhat in the other thread, but what do we want to see in a new HC?
Does he need HC experience at some level or will a solid assistant coach at the DI level who's looking to break into the HC ranks be ok?
Someone familiar with the region or does that matter to you?
Any names you want to toss out there?

I dont care what level he comes from.  First and foremost, he needs to be a culture changer kind of guy.  A guy whose sphere of influence extends well beyond the locker room and football field.  I would even entertain the idea of a Joe Moglia kind of guy who comes in with limited football coaching experience but a proven track record elsewhere who wants a career change later in life.  If he has good "connections", he will attract the support staff to build a successful program and pass it along.

Whats Mr. Nardelli up to these day?  Pretty sure he could pay his own salary.

I'm pretty much the same mindset as Seal. My "wish list" gets a little more pie in the sky after that. I'd like someone who's hungry to take on a program and make it a consistent winner, someone who relates well to students, alumni, and townspeople and lights a fire under them to support football, someone who will keep football alumni invested in the program - not entirely monetarily, but to come back to games when possible, speaking engagements, team meetings - inspirational programs that will keep football at the forefront; and like Seal said, someone with "connections" that could help spark interest in the program, leading to improved facilities. Yeah, it's a dream, but I've always heard to "shoot for the moon, even if you miss you end up in the stars".

Might as well give Lovie Smith a ring out too.  Familiar with the IL landscape.  He was the D Coordinator with the STL Rams when they held their Summer camps in Macomb.  Hey, start at the top and work your way down, right.   ;)

This guy has been here before, and apparently isn't scared of the negatives people are naming. Interesting, and worth a good look, I'd say.

My source who is a former player and coach at WIU says he wants the job bad.
