At one time, Western had 14 dorms.
Starting with Fall 2025, that number will be down to 4.

What were the 14?
I know of:
South side - Corbin, Olson, Lincoln, Washington, Grote (or old Grote)
North side - Thompson, Higgins, Tanner, Wetzel, Bayliss, Henninger
Which ones am I missing?
EDIT - I think I'm confusing old Grote with Bennet Hall:

Where was old Grote Hall then?

"Old" Grote Hall was called Monroe Hall 1913-1947. It was closed in 1973 and demolished in 1993. It sat just east of Sherman and Garwood Halls.
Western's 14 dorms:
Lincoln
Washington
Bennett
Hursch
Grote
Seal
Corbin
Olson
Higgins
Thompson
Bayliss
Henninger
Tanner
Wetzel

Question. I think we are down to 2 cafeterias (Corbin/Olson and Thompson) on campus, right? Would you say they are both equally comparable or is one considered better than the other. In the students minds, where it counts. If you are building a campus from scratch, a centrally-located cafeteria would be job #1 IMHO. Walking a mile for a Camel may have been a good idea at one time. But walking a mile for a slice of pizza not smart today.

From the students I know most prefer Thompson hall

Bennett and Hursh opened in 1958. They were adjacent to Lincoln - Washington. Those 4 dorms shared the same cafeteria.
Nearby "old" Grote Hall had its own dining room which was open Mon-Fri. The Grote women had their weekend meals at the Linc-Wash cafeteria.
Bennett (on the left of this photo) housed women while Hursch housed men. Hursch sat along Adams. "New" Grote Hall now sits where Bennett was.
Bennett and Hursch were closed in 1993 and demolished in 1998.

I vaguely remember those. I started at WIU in '96, so they were still there for a couple years, but weren't in use.

Dumb question but you know I have more than my fair share. I cant seem to find out much about the namesakes of those old residence halls. George Seal comes to mind for Seal Hall but I might be wrong. What about all the others like Bennett, Hursh, Tanner, Wetzel, Henninger, ...
I assume they would have some connection to the university or Illinois government or city of Macomb.
