The ~50 mostly faculty positions will come from merging programs. This is in addition to the 51 people (so far) who have accepted early retirement.

I really think this move makes good sense. Terre has constantly preached "determine what you do well and keep doing it" in regards to course and major offerings and this seems like a good example of something that WIU has not done very well in the recent past and its just time to let it go.
I am not sure if Coach N. is interviewing at USD if he actually is, but the fiscal mess sure makes things "cloudy" as far as going or staying. I am just amazed at the highs and lows of life and athletics. One day WIU beats Wisconsin and qualifies for the playoffs, we win game one and play tough in game 2 and less than a week later the Necks get beaten badly by Iowa and it's rumored that our head football coach is interviewing at USD. Just a total "ugh" in my opinion!!!! jc

Its beginning to look like there is a slight thaw going on between the governor and Madigan. At least it appears that they or their people are talking. Rauner still wants less union involvement and Madigan stated yesterday that he still wanted a 5% state tax. I wonder if they can meet somewhere in the middle. Of course this stalemate has had little or no effect on their life style or plans. Slowly government funds are being released to areas that count on them such as the tourist bureau. You would think state universities would be high on the list as well. Ugh! jc
Although from everything I've read, it sounds like the state universities are essentially last on the list.Neckfansince71 wrote:You would think state universities would be high on the list as well. Ugh! jc
Probably because when you look at who appears to be hurt most by lack of funding, people see highly paid university administrators and professors (like a few at U of I) as pretty low priority compared to children, mothers, elderly, mentally ill, etc. I get the argument, but they need to realize that the ones they're really hurting are the regular employees...civil service people and young professors with very low pay and almost no job security...people who don't make much money, have young families to support, and can't afford to deal with a pay cut.
