OVC it's time

It's time for Western to move to OVC.

I don't see a single member school blocking it. We raise their football profile. We already play 4-5 non con basketball games a year. Saves us money on travel.

Also there is the strong posibility of maintaining a ISU SIU non con schedule with football.....and pick up an FBS .

J****s F***king Ch***t enough already with EVERYTHING ON PLANET EARTH DAKOTA. I for one have no interest in a rebooted NCC. The travel alone is killing us. That and no body cares about the FIVE Dakota schools we play dontcha know.

Yes this is a rant but time to get out. Again we can still start the season with ISU and SIU for football. They would never in a million years come here for basketball anyway.

I don't mind playing SEMO, EIU, Jacksonville State and Murray State for football.

At no time has there has been a conference realignment where by Western initiated anything.

Western dosen't have the self esteem to belong in D-I anymore. We certainly can't afford nor should we be in the Dakota League.

Get some f***ing self respect or get out of D-I.

Im OVC all the way. MVFC - HORIZON is a pipe dream. Any team worth a shit has split. Once again, tired of being in the Dakota League.

Ummmm. SO we aren't in the Gateway anymore, that got hijacked. And we got uninvited to the Horizon. I think we could make some noise in the OVC.

Scott, this deserves a Poll. You make good polls.

It would be a good move for us if we could somehow get an invite. Overnight, we would become more competitive in more sports. We would however still be on the outer fringes of the conference geographic footprint. Another downside to the move is we would have to either drop both men's soccer and swimming/diving or become an affiliate somewhere else. That could open up the door to add rifle if we want to. Regardless of conference, all true "Leathernecks" need rifle as a competitive sport.

I calculated every OVC school and, vice versa every Summit. There are too many OVC to do a true double round robin. which could leave Moorhead State and Eastern Kentucky off of the travel schedule.

Fine, I'll post the travel numbers later. I am one person that has an opinion that once again Western is not in the driver's seat. To be honest why would we? The Summit is basically been hijack from the old NCC. D-II was cool i guess in 1980 I was in kindergarten.

Why is Western alllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllways the last to figure out what is going on?

Let's see...INSU and EIU pair up as travel partners...WIU and SIU-E pair up as travel partners...that could work, I suppose.

Sounds good to me. We have the lowest budget in the MVC for basketball and the fact that our football program can even compete in the MVFC at all is surprising to me. We also lack a true rival. In the OVC I suppose EIU would be our natural rival. The OVC has always seemed like a natural fit to me.

I also dislike the "private school mindset" of the MVC. 11 of the current 12 members in the OVC are public schools, and 8 of them have scholarship football. You would think that the MVC might think about football a little more than they do, since the MVFC is in the same office. We had the opportunity to add Murray State and we went with Valparaiso.

You guys should definitely try to get into the OVC. You would be the third Illinois team in the OVC. SEMO and Murray State are also fairly close. Jacksonville State would be the farthest away game. There are also 5 Tennessee schools, which isn't too terribly far away. Seems like a no-brainer to me. I'm sure they would take you guys in a heartbeat. Your football program in particular is usually pretty good.

I'm not sure the Horizon League would be a good fit for you guys. I think most of their schools are in the big cities and are more basketball oriented. Most of the OVC is in small towns or medium sized cities, excluding Belmont and TN State who are in Nashville.

Sycamorefan96 gets it.

The travel would be less with the OVC. Moorehead State and Jacksonville State are pretty far but not farther than Grand Forks or Denver. For basketball I might envision only playing (traveling to) JSU and Moorehead every other year since membership would be at 14 if WIU and ISU join making a double round-robin conference schedule impractical. Western actually gets two Illinois schools and a true rival in conference with EIU.
