Coach Kerwin passed away last Friday. Be sure to go read the obit...
In lieu of flowers or donations, please go yell at a random basketball official in his memory...

But for a guy named Homer, Jim would have been in our HOF.

Homer made a good living recruiting tall kids from across the pond. Still making a good living as Associate AD at Valpo.
Embrace the pace of the race.

Agree, Jim doesn't get enough credit for what he did while he was WIU's coach

I'm sure we would have had at least one, maybe a few NCAA tournament appearances if it weren't for the Drew family and the crew of big eastern european guys they always had.

From 1999 and beyond, the program did go into a abit of a tailspin. Hard to say what may have caused the downturn in success. I suspect it was less what WIU did and more what other teams did, i.e. a powershift in the conference. ORU and Oakland joined Valpo as the teams to beat, Jim may looked into the future with the talent level on hand and said, now is a good time to leave before the shit really hits the fan. Really smart coaches know when to make that move.
