I saw that and really had to wonder. What kind of degrees does Tressel have. The VP job that led to this has a title that sounds created. Getting the Pres nod sounds like someone has a connection. Anyone with any insight?

The man earned 4 national championships at YSU - that is the only connection needed. Tom Osborne could be governor of Nebraska if he wanted and would not even have to run a campaign.

Correction. He tried and failed. My bad.

He earned a B.A. in Education at Baldwin Wallace College in 1975 and a Master's degree in Education in 1977 at the University of Akron, where he also served as assistant football coach and instructor of physical education from 1975 to 1978.

He's pretty well "revered" by a lot of people in Ohio, even considering the way he left Ohio State.
Born in Ohio, went to school in Ohio, coached at Acron, Miami (OH), Syracuse (his only job outside of Ohio), Youngstown State (to 1 I-AA national championship), and of course, Ohio State (to 4 national championships). He also donated $1 mil to Youngstown State (after he'd left the school) to build the Watson and Tressel Training Site, probably the nicest training facility in the conference (and honestly, probably nicer than a lot of the lower level FBS schools have).

It wouldn't take much string pulling for him to be able to get just about any hired position he wants in Ohio (outside of coaching...can't do that until the 2017 season).

While that's certainly a connection!
