A reunion for alumni of Western is no longer taking place in 2020.

COVID-19 restrictions and safety guidelines have pushed the reunion to a yet-to-be-determined date in 2021. In the Facebook group titled “WIU Mega Reunion 2021 – Macomb,” an Admin said that the change is “in the interest of state policy and the unknown”.

The Facebook group has been active in planning the reunion for almost a year and is approaching 20,000 members – all of whom have been or are currently affiliated with Western.

What do we have to do? Teach the board how to play "Rock, Paper, Scissors" to get something done? LOL

The arrogance demonstrated by Aguilar was disgusting. He wanted a slate of 3 individuals who he said were the only ones with leadership capacity since they had switched sides on prior issues. What he didn't clarify was those switches were. Shaw, who "broke ranks" and supported Abraham rather than Rives as the initial Acting President; Brown who "broke ranks" and supported a national search for President rather than naming Abraham; and Dolieslager who "broke ranks" by intially rejecting the increased student fee proposal in light of QC student concerns. With the exception of Shah, all switches were to the side of Aguilar.

Those three would provide an officer slate of all men, one of whom is Black, compared to an officer slate of 1 women and 2 men, one of whom is Black. The gain in ethnic diversity would be a Black Chair instead of Vice Chair, at the expense of zero gender diversity. Yet, Aguilar questioned the ethics of those voting against his slate, effectively calling them out as being racist, with Twomey took offense at

Would Shaw be a good Chair? Absolutely? But the argument for retaining the slate was that we are nearing the end of the process of hiring a new President, hopefully by December 2020, and will be facing reaccreditation review in Spring 2021, with Radosh heavily involved in and experienced in both.

My guess is that it was Shaw who changed his vote in the end to get us past this fiasco. I hope to see him as Chair in the future.

As far as Aguilar, I hope he is not reappointed when his term is up. Yet, that is not likely with Pritzer in office as Aguilar is while he is friends with Deputy Governor Ruiz, a major aspect in his being named to the Board as the only one who has no prior connection with WIU.

In term of Lang, she has consistently demonstrated lack of awareness of the issues being discussed, including commenting she had no idea they were going to be voting on agenda items. C'mon, they get the agenda before the general public. If she doesn't read it, like she admitted not reading Radosh's emails or taking her phone class, the lack of awareness is 100% on Lang's shoulders. Lang is there to support whatever Aguilar has told her to support.

Somebody please answer the question why we elect board trustee members for our JUCOs yet leave it up to elected politicians to appoint trustees to oversee our higher institutions of learning.

Other than "its the law" in Illinois, these would have to be statewide elections since students through the state, and other states, attend our state universities. In contrast, community colleges, like public high schools, have regional boudaries.
