At this point, there's only two Leathernecks on NFL rosters (that I can find, let me know if there's others that you know of):

Mike Scifres - starting his 12th season as punter (11th as the starting punter) for the San Diego Chargers
Jason Williams - starting his 6th season in the NFL as a LB for the Carolina Panthers

Also, Bryan Cox - is starting his 9th year in an NFL coaching position, having been hired earlier this year as the Atlanta Falcons Defensive Line coach.

And now Scifres is out with a broken clavicle. From what I gather, he could possibly be back for playoffs assuming they make it that far. The dude is definitely a weapon for the Chargers.

You know what they say about bad news. Somebody got Brian Cox's back right now?

Had an interesting though today...

This is the first weekend of regular season NFL football in a long time that a Leatherneck is not on the active playing roster of any NFL team. Actually...I think we can go so far as to say that it's the first regular season weekend that a Leatherneck hasn't played (barring possible lining-up of bye weeks).
The only players we had this year were Jason Williams (released by the Panthers a couple of weeks ago) and Mike Scifres (currently on injured reserve).

Scifres has played in every game back to 2003.
2003 - Rodney Harrison and Aaron Stecker played every game.
2002 - Rich Seubert played every game
2001 & 2000 - Fabien Bownes
1999 - Frank Winters
1998 & 1997 - Bownes, Bryan Cox, and Harrison
1996 - Harrison and Winters
Frank Winters then gets us every game from '95 back to '89, when he missed one game (Cox and Harrison also have a few 16-game seasons in that span as well)
In 1989, Winters played in 15 games and Don Beebe played in 14 games (16 game season). Unfortunately, I can't find a list of specifically which games they played in that year to see if the game that Winters missed is the same as one of the ones that Don Beebe missed. If so, then the streak started there and lasted 25 years. If not, then...

Winters gets us all of '88, but then we're back to the '87 NFL strike season, which did see a few former Leathernecks get pulled in for 3 games each...Mark Tigges, John Stadnik, Bruce McCray, Todd Auer...but that was a pretty odd situation. Still, it looks like the streak wouldn't go back any further than that either way since I'm not seeing anyone listed as playing in the '86 season.

EDIT - was just pointed out to me that Jason Williams was picked up by Tampa Bay at some point and is on their active roster currently (don't know if he actually played, but he's on the team). The streak continues!

Article about Scifres: http://espn.go.com/blog/san-diego-charg ... ke-scifres

EDIT - apparently that article was written before this...
REPORT: San Diego Chargers punter Mike Scifres to retire at end of season

EDIT #2 - looks like the reports of him retiring were a bit premature: http://www.scout.com/nfl/chargers/story ... -emotional

Well ours ends and Monmouth's starts. Our AD's (are we still calling him interm) brother got his first NFL action today with the Titans and threw his first career TD. Been rooting for and following him since college, so good for him.

Hopefully Nikko, Harley or Gavin Ricketts can get our streak started again next year.

We don't know for sure yet if Scifres is retiring, so it may still go for a bit longer. That earlier post about him retiring after this year turned out to be speculation based on some of his comments at one point. He has since said that he wants to keep playing as long as he can.

Still, it would be nice to have another player or two make it to the Pro level.

And, for those of you who haven't seen it, here's Alex Tanney's crazy trick shot video:
