Looks like he stepped back from his commitment after getting serious interest from some MAC schools and even a couple of Big 10 schools.

Not surprised.  Rarely see kids stick to commitments they make in the summer.

I think that in general, coaches are going to go after portal players for positions that they don't have much depth at currently. If a kid doesn't have a problem with the coaching staff or school, then it often would probably be in their interest to stick it out at the school rather than transferring. Unless there's a large difference in talent or work ethic, I'd imagine a coach would much prefer having a kid that came up through their program rather than bringing in a transfer for that spot. I'm hoping that once the COVID year stuff has worked it's way through the system and everyone has had a chance to get used to the transfer rules, that things will settle down somewhat. I'm not a fan of this whole "switch out half of the team" every year thing.
