The women's basketball team is now 6-5 overall following last week's two losses at North Dakota (67-78) and at home against UIC (70-78).

Like I did with the men's basketball post, I'm going to go ahead and post the rest of the games for 2015 (since there's only two).

Monday, December 21 at 7 PM at Kansas State
K-State is currently 8-1, with wins at Tulsa (75-67), home vs Abilene Christian (76-45) and South Dakota (84-81 OT), then a loss at #1 UConn (97-57). They then proceeded to follow that up with 5 straight wins...at home vs Southern (59-57) and UT-Arlington (61-41), at Chicago State (63-54), then back home vs UT-Rio Grande Valley (61-43) and Florida Atlantic (102-53). They have a game this coming Saturday (12/19) against Sam Houston State prior to their matchup with us.
Common opponents:
Chicago State - we won 88-50, K-State won 63-54
South Dakota - K-State won 84-81 in OT, we will play them in-conference on 1/27 and 2/18.

Monday, December 28 at 7 PM at Illinois State
ISU has just about the exact opposite schedule result as K-State...currently sitting at 1-7. They started off the season with a loss at Bowling Green (70-52), then a home win vs Murray State (81-76), and home loss against UIC (74-65). They lost at UT-San Antonio (77-51) and against Omaha (60-56) with both games at a tournament in San Antonio. They then lost back home against SIUE (65-57), at #23 DePaul (89-41) and then against Northern Illinois (68-59 in Moline). They will play at Yale on December 16th and home against Chicago State on December 21st before our matchup with them.
Common opponents:
UIC - we lost 78-70 last Saturday, ISU lost 74-65
SIUE - we won 78-74, ISU lost 65-57
Chicago State - we won 88-50, ISU will play next Monday
Omaha - ISU lost 60-56, we will play them in-conference on 1/3 and 1/30.

K-State will be tough, I think...very tough. ISU, however, is a winnable game if we're able to play anything close to how we played earlier in the season, as opposed to how we've played the last couple of games.

After these two games, it's all in-conference starting on 1/1.

Western beats Illinois State 79-64. Western finishes the non-conference portion of the season with a 7-6 record.

Summit League games will begin Friday night (Jan 1) at Western Hall vs Oral Roberts. Game time is 7PM.

Emily Clemens led the Western scoring with 22 points. She was also named the "Meijer Player-of-the-Game" by ESPN3.

During the ESPN3 broadcast, the announcers mentioned that the Missouri Valley Conference Women's Basketball Tournament will be played at the I-Wireless Center in Moline for the next 3 years. There is an option to extend it for 2 additional years. This is the same arena where the Mid-Continent Conference had its tournament in the late 90's.

Attendance at Redbird Arena was 539.

Western should have been bidding for Moline to be the Summit League location. Heck, Western has a campus very near the I-Wireless Center, and Macomb is closer to the QC than any of the MVC teams. Bad PR for us on this announcement!

And wow, would our travel be far better in the MVC, plus the chances for some in-state rivalries:
Bradley, Drake, Evansville, Illinois State, Indiana State, Loyola, Missouri State, Northern Iowa, Southern Illinois, Wichita State

Once again, the QC demonstrates to me that they are very progressive when it comes to promoting these kind of events. The ISC World Tournament (men's fastpitch) is returning to Moline next year. But honestly, it would be extremely difficult to compete with the Sanfords from the Dakotas when it comes to college basketball.
